West Adelaide Bearcats (73) lost to South Adelaide Panthers (74)

The Panther Men are possibly still celebrating after their thriller of a win over the Bearcats at Port Adelaide. When a team who has struggled in recent times to edge out last year’s grand finalists by 1 point in the final minute of the game, it reveals just how open the Central Australian Basketball Season has become in 2014.

From upsets like this, to stutter steps for our regular powerhouse teams to new emerging forces we are seeing unexpected results and tight fights across the competition.

The Bearcats set the pace for most of the game but the Panthers stayed in the hunt and put the pedal to the metal in the final 5 minutes when it counted.

South were down by 5 as they passed the 1 minute mark and all seemed to be lost for the travelers. However a couple of costly fouls un-ravelled the Bearcats efforts in the end and Jordan Robertson's accuracy on foul shots got the Panthers across the line by 1 point in the dying seconds..

Spadavechia proved handy for West with 8 assists and 10 points but Jason Dawson carried most of the load for the Bearcats scoring over a third of the teams points with 27 to his name to compliment his 11 rebounds.

Bradley Reid scored a double-double for South with 20 points and 14 rebounds, he was supported by Shane Boal and Jordan Robertson who scored 16 and 23 respectively.
