Rockets Women Dominate Sabres

Sturt Sabres (45) lost to North Adelaide Rockets (71)

The North Adelaide Rockets Women had a convincing win by 26 points over the Sturt Sabres on Saturday night, moving in to second place on the premiership table.

The clash was set to be tight as Sturt looked to get one back from the Rockets after their devastating loss in the preliminary final last year; but the Rockets were just too strong.

North had a strong start, leading by 7 points at the first break, but Sturt would not give up without a fight, trying their best to get back in the game.

Jo Hill impressed, leading the Rockets’s attack yet again and finishing with and double double, 17 points, 11 rebounds and added 3 assists.

Lauren Badenoch also stepped up adding 14 points to her name as well as creating scoring opportunities for her teammates, including Shannon Mckay with 11 points.

In the end North were just too strong for the Sabers, despite a great effort from Sturt’s new recruit, Lucy Spalding, playing her part with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Sabres did manage to shut down Jamie Lee Peris under the basket, however Hill was too dominant.

Rockets look set to be a real contender for the premiership again this year if they continue to play with the ‘gusto’ displayed last night.

Yet, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the unstoppable Norwood when they meet in Round 5, perhaps this win will give them the confidence they need to finally beat the Flames.
