Sabres Women Hold Off Eagles

Sturt Sabres (69) defeated Forestville Eagles (63)

A strong first half by Sturt made it back-to-back wins against a slow starting Eagles side, 69-63.

The Sabres women came out of the blocks firing on Saturday night in what was a fast paced affair against archrivals Forestville.

An aggressive Sturt side took a ten-point lead into the main break, with Natalie Novosel proving to be unstoppable in the paint, dragging down 15 rebounds and 26 points for the game.

However, it was Forestville who took the front foot in the third period as Sturt struggled to contain Eagles guard, Jess Fergus who had a season-high 31 points.

A physical final quarter saw both teams move into foul trouble early on as the Sabres managed to hold off a fast finishing Forestville side to move both teams to a 3-2 record for 2014.
