Sturt Scrape by Eagles in Grudge Match
Sturt Sabres (80) defeated Forestville Eagles (77)
Sturt’s men handed Forestville their second consecutive loss on Saturday night, taking down the reigning premiers, 80-77.
In what was a goal for goal encounter from start to finish, the Sabres were able to maintain a slim lead at every break.
After missing against South last week, Tim Klaosen returned to provide some much-needed scoring power for the home side, adding 18 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. While Forestville big man Neill Mottram continued his impressive start to the season, leading all scorers with 24 points and 10 boards.
Aggressive defence from Sturt saw CABL leading scorer, Trent Fildes, restricted to just 14 points, struggling to cope with the offensive void left by the injured Jake Rios.
For the second week in a row, it was a case of missed opportunities for the Eagles, failing to capitalise on Sturt’s 21 turnovers and missing 6 crucial free throws in the final period.
Sturt’s Hamish Burns and Dexter Moore proved they may be the most dynamic guard combination in the league, sharing 37 points, 5 steals and 13 rebounds between them.
The win moves Sturt into second place, while the Eagles will look to rebuild their season against the Southern Tigers next week.
