Warrior Men Outlast Panthers

Woodville Warriors (84) defeated South Adelaide Panthers (73)

The Woodville Warriors put away a resilient South Adelaide men's team with four players scoring in double digits en route to an 84-73 victory at St Clair on Saturday night.

Darren Ng led the way for the Warriors with 21 points including five makes from beyond the arc to lead all scorers.

Woodville only trailed once in the tightly contested match that South refused to let go until the final buzzer sounded.

Alex Starling put the Warriors up by 12 two and a half minutes into the second quarter but in what would become a recurring theme, the Panthers narrowed the lead to two after Ryan Gardner hit a triple and then followed up with two made free throws.

The Warriors responded as they would for the rest of the game, Darren Ng making a three just before the half time buzzer.

Darren Ng and Cameron Wilson showed off the potency of the Warriors offence, quickly building an 11 point buffer after the half time break. The Panthers fought back time and time again, Shane Boal splashing a triple and Brad Reid getting his inside shots to fall to cut the lead to six.

But each time the Panthers got close, Woodville answered and stretched the lead back out to 10.

Along with Ng, Woodville had solid contributions from Wilson (15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists), Steve Pilkington (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Starling (10 points).

Brad Reid topped South Adelaide scorers with 19 to go along with his 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. Thomas McKenzie finished with 16 and Boal added 14.
