Round 16 Previews

North Adelaide Rockets Vs Central Districts Lions

WOMEN 6:30 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | HILLCREST
OFFICIALS: M Dyson & N Passey

North (11-4) v Centrals (0-15)

North Adelaide are equal with South Adelaide in terms of wins and hold third rung the ladder. The Rockets are only one game behind Sturt and a win here would secure them a role in the finals series.

Centrals by contrast are still winless, despite one of their best performances of the season – 79-90 loss to West last week.

The Rockets should land the win without a bump at Hillcrest on Saturday.

Last time they met – North 87-46. Shannon McKay 15 points, Jo Hill 14. Aimee Herriman 13 points and 11 points Coby Rodda for Centrals.

MEN 8:15 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | HILLCREST
OFFICIALS: V Devlin & R Rochford

North (3-12) v Centrals (9-6)

The Central Districts Lions are currently tied with West and Forestville for third. The Lions are one game above Sturt after beating West Adelaide by 2 points last week, not even Daniel Johnson could stop them from snatching an important win against West.

North Adelaide on the other hand are currently in 9th spot and are playing without Pero Vasiljevic this week and would be highly unlikely to pull off an upset win against Centrals this week.

Last time they met – Lions 68-55. Miller 21 points, 7 assists. Kyle Williams 18 points, 4 steals. Pero Vasilijevic 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5-16 FT

South Adelaide Panthers Vs Eastern Mavericks

WOMEN 6:30 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | MARION
OFFICIALS:J Cresp & H Starkey

South (11-4) v Eastern (3-12)

South Adelaide are now guaranteed of finals after pulling off a mammoth upset over Norwood 77-59 last week. The Panthers are still a chance to finish 2nd or 3rd if things go their way on the run home.

The Eastern Mavericks are tied for 8th and are playing for pride as they finish the season. With more at stake and given the form the Panthers have had this year you would have to tip the home team for the win.

Last time they met – 84-56. Janae Howard 31 points, 10 rebounds. Jessica Mahony 15 points, 8 rebounds. Emma Hooley standout with 13 points, 11 rebounds for Eastern.

MEN 8:15 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | MARION
OFFICIALS: M Frost & J Grigoul

South (6-9) v Eastern (2-13)

South Adelaide Men are now out of the finals race, after losing 73-80 to Norwood last week. The Panthers are currently sitting in 8th position with the Mavs in 10th, however the Panthers have 4 games on the Mavericks.

Eastern are coming off their first home win since 2011 after beating the North Adelaide, 89-83 last round. Even though momentum probably tips in favour of the Mavericks in this match up, form and the home ground advantage makes South the likely victors this week.

Last time they met – South 90-77. Shane Boal 27 points, 12 rebounds. Bradley Reid 20 points, 17 rebounds. Curtis Scipio 19 points, Daniel Lean 16 points, 6 assists for Mavericks.

West Adelaide Bearcats Vs Sturt Sabres

WOMEN 6:30 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | PORT ADELAIDE
OFFICIALS:D Miller & D Rault

West (7-8) v Sturt (12-3)

This week's women's Match of the Round will happen at the Port when the Sturt Sabres take on the West Adelaide Bearcats.

Sturt hold 2nd on the ladder and have eight straight wins on their record. Mathematically, the visitors can still finish top, or drop to as low as fourth depending on how the chips fall over the next three games.

West are one game out the five and must-win to keep their finals hopes alive.

Last time they met – West upset 71-59. Anna Carbo held to 9 points, but Meg Mcleod (18 points) and Kate Shierlaw (14 points, 9 rebounds) had big games. Novosel 19 points, 7 rebounds – the only Sabre in double figures.

With so much at stake and because it's their house, the Bearcats should be able to get over the line on heart but the Sabres will not give in without a fight.

MEN 8:15 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | PORT ADELAIDE
OFFICIALS: N Durant & I Domeika

West (9-6) v Sturt (8-7)

The West Adelaide Bearcats are playing to secure a finals berth when they face the Sturt Sabres who are scratching to stay alive post season. Daniel Johnson has rejoined West and although he wasn't enough to change West's fate against the Lions last week despite a big contribution (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals in loss to Centrals) he might be the leg up the Bearcats need this week.

Sturt’s 93-100 loss to Woodville last week puts them out of the top five by a game, but they can tie West for wins if they are successful this week. A loss could have them two games outside of the five with two to play, making this a must-win, potentially season-saving game for the Sabres.

Last time they met – West 93-83. Dexter Moore 48 points. Jason Dawson 34 for West, Blake Truslove 18 points, 20 rebounds.

Woodville Warriors Vs Southern Tigers

WOMEN 6:30 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | ST CLAIR
OFFICIALS: N Frost & M Pepicelli

Woodville (7-8) v Southern (3-12)

The Woodville Warriors are on the brink of elimination, after their 67-80 loss to Sturt last week. They trailed by just one point at half-time however, Sturt blew them away in the final 20 minutes for the second time this season.

Southern are in 9th spot, sharing a win loss record with the Mavericks. It was close last time they met, Woodville squeaked by with the win 69-64. Ashleigh White 18 points, Reynolds 17. Shayde Quintrell 12 points, 22 rebounds for Southern. Fawcett 15 points.

This will be a close match, both sides have the personnel for the win, hunger for a finals run may push the Warriors over the line though.

MEN 8:15 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | ST CLAIR
OFFICIALS: N Irleand & B Northcote

Woodville (11-4) v Southern (6-9)

Southern are out of the finals race, 3 games off the pace and in 7th spot while Woodville are gunning for the minor premiership in second position on the ladder and in hot pursuit of Norwood's top spot.

The Warriors are guaranteed a place in the finals now and are finishing their season by playing for a favorable draw in the finals series. This match up against the Tigers should aid their cause with a win for Woodville at St Clair on Saturday night.

Last time they met – Woodville 75-52. Starling 17 points, 8 rebounds. Daniel Sims 16 points. Luke Stanbridge 14 points, 9 rebounds,

Forestville Eagles Vs Norwood Flames

WOMEN 6:30 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | WAYVILLE
OFFICIALS: A Just & H Starkey

Forestville (8-7) v Norwood (13-2)

Norwood are coming off their biggest loss since 2010 after the South Adelaide Panthers took them down 77-59 last week. The Flames are still a game clear in the top spot but will have to watch their backs with the Sabres on the hunt in the final weeks of the competition.

Forestville trounced the Tigers last week and are in 5th, just one game above West and Woodville. So they will be doing everything they can to snatch a win this week and keep a step ahead and in the top 5.

Last time they met – Norwood 87-74. Lewis, Good 24 points apiece. Defrancesco 21 points, Fergus 18 for Forestville.

Norwood historically struggle against Carla Borrego Williams – 14/14 in 2012 Prelim, 27/23 in 2011 GF, 26/8 in debut against Flames. Averages 22.3 ppg and 17 rpg in three full appearances.

Although the Flames have been formidable this season, a home crowd and a finals berth at stake will push the Eagles to play their best, it could go either way.

MEN 8:15 PM | SATURDAY 19 JULY | WAYVILLE
OFFICIALS: N Wieland & A Filmer

Forestville (9-6) v Norwood (12-3)

The Forestville Eagles are the team on the move and they will take on quiet achievers and first placed Norwood this this week's Match of the Round.

Norwood are one game above the pack in top spot and haven't dropped a game in 10 rounds. The Flames still have contenders Woodville and West to come before finals begin which will provide good pre-finals hit-outs for the Flames post season preparation.

Forestville are also had having chalked up five straight wins recently. The Eagles share a win loss record with the Bearcats and the Lions but they hold the split with neither so a win here could be pivotal for the Eagles. The Eagles will finish their season by facing the two bottom ranked teams in their last two games so a win here could change everything.

Last time they met – Norwood 114-94. Norwood hit 8-12 3s in first, outscored Forestville 42-28. Ian O’Boyle 26 points, 7-13 3FG. Andrew Webber 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists. Jake Rios 42 points for Forestville.
