Consistent Panthers Prevail
South Adelaide Panthers (91) defeated Eastern Mavericks (62)
The South Adelaide Panthers had a convincing 29 point win over the Eastern Mavericks at Marion on Saturday.
The Panthers put together four consistent quarters on the scoreboard while the Mavs surged and stalled all night. The Mavericks played their best quarter in the second which was the only one they won for the night, and they were still in the hunt trailing by 6 points at the major break.
Janae Howard got the ball rolling with a quick streak of buckets early in the third quarter as the Panthers lifted their intensity across the court. Jess Mahony helped out and Ashleigh Spencer made all the difference coming out to play with 5 and a half minutes until the final break, she managed to score 7 points and created a 14 point buffer for South as they headed in to the final period.
Poor ball handling let the Mavericks down in the last quarter, they gave up 8 turnovers for the period and 26 for the night. The Panthers got away with 17 steals and 17 points off turnover, they also pulled down 50 rebounds allowing them to walk away with the win.
Jess Mahony led the Panthers in points (22), rebounds (9) and assists (10). Teammate Janae Howard tied Mahony as top scorer and also led the Panthers in rebounds (9), blocks (3) and steals (5).
Emma Hooley had a double-double for the Mavericks with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
