Bearcats' Crucial Victory
West Adelaide Bearcats (95) defeated Sturt Sabres (80)
After their 15 point win on the weekend, West Adelaide are now two games clear of Sturt who are one game off the pace in 6th position with just two chances left to try to squeak in to the finals.
The Bearcats began well, Daniel Johnson and Blake Truslove combining to build a respectable 7 point lead at the first break. Sabres Coach Brett Maher, mixed up his personnel and the changes helped, the visitors pegging back West lead to 3 points at half time. West played their best quarter in the third while the Sabres played their worst and the gap between them opened up to 21 points heading in to the fourth.
Sabres Dexter Moore and Tim Klaosen pushed hard and while they managed to win the quarter it wasn't enough to catch the home team. The Bearcats remained comfortably out in front and finished the game 15 points ahead.
The Bearcats played a strong game on the boards with a team effort 52 rebounds to Sturt's 25. Daniel Johnson grabbed 18 for himself, he also contributed 25 points. Fellow Bearcat Jason Dawson led the game with 27 points. Dextor Moore top scored for the Sabres scoring 24 points for the night.
