Rnd 4: Tigers' dominance continues with a strong win over Rockets Men

By Connor Rice

Southern Tigers 92 | North Adelaide Rockets 48

Four games, four wins. The Southern Tigers men are on a hot streak to say the least. From the jump it was all Tigers basketball as the team who have employed an incredible fast paced offence ran rampant on the Rockets.

The game felt like an overmatch early on as both Mitch Creek and new import, Alex Starling got out on the break for easy transition layups and dunks. In the first four games for the season, their pace and speed has been a major part in the Tigers success. Likely a product of Coach Nyberg’s offence, this combination of both intimidating defence and players like Creek, Johns and Starling who thrive in transition have made the Tigers very hard to stop.

Another major point of emphasis was their excellent ball movement. It never seemed on Sunday night as if the ball stopped, quick passes around the perimeter and cuts through the lane opened up the outside for hot streak shooters like Sam Johns, Clarke, Matthews and Staude to all let fly from deep.

The Rockets who are no slouch team coming into the game 3-0, really did struggle to find any offensive rhythm. It was an obvious discrepancy that they missed their star Luke Mapunda who is averaging more than 17 points, 14 rebounds a game. Likely a player whose contribution may have stopped the Tigers flow.

Either way it seemed yet again that the Tigers were just too deep with another balanced team contribution. Still undefeated heading into this Saturday’s game against Forestville it looks like the Tigers will remain red hot for a while yet.

Round 5: Saturday, 16 April 2016

Southern Tigers v Forestville Eagles at Morphett Vale @ 8.15pm

North Adelaide Rockets v Norwood Flames at Mars @ 6.30pm
