Round 6 Preview - WOMEN

By James Woite

Central District Lions (0-5) v Norwood Flames (5-0)

The winless Lions are faced with a monumental task this week, as they have the challenge of preventing the Flames from winning their 30th consecutive game.

The Flames are just two victories away from matching their 31 game winning run over 2013-14, after conquering North 76-53 last week. Cara Annetts scored 15 points.

The Lions got 20 points from Alisha Carlin, but it was not enough to stop a 38 point slide to Eastern.

The Flames swept last season’s series with the Lions 2-0.

West Adelaide Bearcats (3-2) v Woodville Warriors (3-2)

The Warriors will attempt to bounce back from their Round 5 loss to Sturt, when they visit the Bearcats at Port Adelaide.

The Warriors’ 11 point defeat, in which they scored just two fourth quarter points, cost them the chance to go 4-1. Tavarsha Scott scored 14 points.

Elsewhere, the Bearcats’ 61-52 triumph over South boosted them to 3-2. Sky Langenbrinck scored 10 points.

The Bearcats won last season’s series with the Warriors 3-1. This includes a victory in the Elimination Final that ended the Warriors’ year.

Eastern Mavericks (1-4) v Sturt Sabres (4-1)

The Sabres can rise to 5-1, if they can get past the Mavericks at Adelaide Hills.

The Sabres beat the Warriors 61-50 last week, getting 12 points from Hannah Richards in the process.

The Mavericks were able to secure their first win of 2016, prevailing 98-60 over Centrals. Tracey Carrington scored 22 points.

The Sabres swept the Mavericks 2-0 last season.

North Adelaide Rockets (3-2) v Forestville Eagles (4-1)

In the Match of the Round, the Rockets will be hoping to avoid slipping back to .500, when they welcome the Eagles to Hillcrest.

The Rockets fell behind by double digits early against Norwood last week, and could not recover. Shannon McKay scored 16 points in the 23 point setback.

The Eagles came from behind to earn a 74-70 success at Southern. Samantha Defrancesco scored 24 points.

The Rockets swept the Eagles 2-0 last season.

South Adelaide Panthers (0-5) v Southern Tigers (2-3)

The Panthers will have another shot at their first victory of 2016, when they battle the Tigers at Marion.

In one of their closest games this campaign, the Panthers fell by nine to West last round. Madeline Cunningham scored 17 points.

Former Panther, Mollie McKendrick scored 17 points against Forestville, but the Tigers dropped a four point game to Forestville.

Last season’s series between the Panthers and Tigers finished in a 1-1 tie.
