Rnd 10: Bearcats Men snap losing streak with win against Rockets

By Mark Halliday

West Adelaide Bearcats 85 | North Adelaide Rockets 75

The West Adelaide Bearcats have ended their four game losing streak with an excellent fourth quarter performance, winning by 10 points, 85-75 over the visiting North Adelaide Rockets on Saturday night.

A back and forth first half continued into the third quarter as both teams matched the other with neither team able to gain an advantage until well into the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats took the lead for good with 4:20 left in the game as Tom Kubank rattled off 5 quick points to give the home side a 4 point lead.

West Adelaide had stepped up their defence as they limited the Rockets scoring output late in the fourth to build the gap until the final buzzer.

Blake Truslove (24 points, 10 rebounds) dominated the final quarter, scoring 11 points including 7 straight to put the game out of reach. Truslove kept getting fed by his teammates and continued to convert his chances near the basket as the Rockets couldn't find the answer on how to slow him down.

The Rockets couldn't make shots on the other end to halt the momentum of the Bearcats as they were outscored 27-13 in the final quarter as the West Adelaide defence was too much for them to overcome.

Anthony Spadavecchia (14 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) did a little bit of everything for the Bearcats. Demetrius Perkins added 12 points and 5 assists in the victory.

The Rockets were led by Luke Mapunda (21 points, 8 rebounds) who energised his team early in the game. Cody Rhorer (17 points), Luke Pike (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Thomas Rowe (10 points, 6 assists) all had solid contributions but North Adelaide couldn't put it together as a team when it mattered.
