Rnd 12: Flames Women quick to rebound against Panthers

The Norwood Flames have bounced back after their first defeat for the season last week by defeating a willing South Adelaide Panthers side 72-58 on their home turf.
Teresa Kinross kicked off the match for her Panthers with a basket early on. Norwood however had an abundance of scoring opportunities but just couldn’t seem to capitalise. South was giving away several fouls and free-throws but the flames were unable to take advantage of them. Their precision shooting that has been a highlight this season was wildly off as they missed a total of 18 shots in the first quarter.
South had a strong start to the second quarter, scoring a few three pointers and creating numerous offensive and defensive rebounds. Madeline Cunningham was subbed on half way through and played incredibly well, setting up shots for her teammates and making an impressive steal. To their credit, Norwood played much better in the second period but South maintained the lead heading into half time 34-33.
The Flames fired back in the third quarter with their ball control and pressure was elevating immensely alongside their shooting accuracy. Taylor Ortlepp had an excellent flurry and was perhaps the most important factor in Norwood’s resurgence. Ortlepp made some remarkable shots and her effort and determination was relentless. Her fiery spirit lifted her team and saw Norwood grasp the lead towards the end of the third.
The fourth quarter saw much of the same as the third. Norwood’s dominance excelled through and while the Panthers fought valiantly all the way to the end, the final score saw South defeated 59 to Norwood 72.
Ortlepp accumulated 28 points, while Jessica Good had a strong showing as well with 14 rebounds.
Cunningham was top scorer for her Panthers with 11 points.
With their win, Norwood remains top on the ladder and will look to continue their dominant season in two weeks against Forestville.
