Rnd 14: Tigers Men enjoy huge night out

Forestville Eagles 69 | Southern Tigers 113

The Southern Tigers have notched up another away win on the back of a brilliant all-round display on Saturday night. Despite the Eagles doing quite well this season, they were no match for the irresistible Tigers. Mitch Creek starred, collecting 10 rebounds and a game-high 30 points, while Alex Starling was instrumental with 25 points and 20 boards. Sam Johns also managed 20 points for the winning side, while Adam Doyle top-scored for the hosts with 14 points.

The visitors were able to make themselves known early with an 8-0 streak to begin proceedings. Dodman impressed in the paint, while Creek showed off some of his party tricks early, with an impressive dunk and one. The quarter ended with the hosts down by 8 points and a three-point play from Starling early in the second ensured there would be no let off from the visitors. Creek and Johns buried triples to extend the margin, as the hosts allowed their mentally stronger opponents to take their lead. This period of dominance for the Tigers resulted in a half-time margin of 29 points.

The third term was much more closely contested but the hosts failed to gain any considerable enthusiasm from a drained crowd. For the Tigers, Andrew Barton scored a maximum, while Hamish Staude caused a huge rejection on Morphett in the final seconds of the term. With the 29-point lead maintained, the Southern Tigers found themselves completely controlling proceedings at Wayville. Mitch Creek showed his ability at the highest national level, creating several plays and an incredulous alley-oop slam dished off by Andrew Barton. Megins (12 points) remained competitive in a disheartening effort, landing a simple one-handed dunk with time of the essence, as Southern cruised to a comfortable 69-113 win.

The victory restores the two-win buffer that the visitors have on Norwood with a trip to Morphett Vale against the struggling Panthers next on the radar. Meanwhile, Forestville have now dropped out of the top five and must win their match against the Rockets to stay in touch with the in-form Bearcats.

Round 15: Saturday, 2 July at 8:15pm
Southern Tigers vs South Adelaide Panthers @ Morphett Vale
Forestville Eagles vs North Adelaide Rockets @ Wayville
