Round 17 Preview - MEN

Norwood Flames (13-3, 2nd) v Sturt Sabres (10-6, 5th)

In the match of the round at Mars, the Sabres will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses to the league's top two sides, when they face the Flames.

Last week, the Sabres fell to Southern 74-86. As a result, they have fallen to fifth spot, two games ahead of West.

The Flames beat Eastern 84-67 last round. With Woodville losing to Forestville on Sunday, the Flames now have the chance to build a two game advantage in second spot.

Last time they met, the Flames comfortably beat the Sabres 80-59.

South Adelaide Panthers (3-13, 8th) v Central District Lions (3-13, 9th)

The battle for eighth place is on this week with the Panthers taking on the Lions at Marion.

Both teams have a record of 3-13, and are coming off defeats. The Panthers lost 59-81 to Woodville, while the Lions went down 84-91 to North.

Last time they met, it was the Panthers on the right side of a 95-85 score line.

Southern Tigers (15-1, 1st) v West Adelaide Bearcats (8-8, 6th)

The Bearcats will be hoping to cause a massive upset that will improve their finals chances when they visit the Tigers at Morphett Vale.

Last week, the Bearcats had the chance to tie with Forestville on nine wins, but were blown out in the first quarter 5-35. They added some respectability in the final 30 minutes, for a final score of 72-89. The Bearcats will be three games outside the five, with only four matches remaining, if they lose to the Tigers and Sturt beat Norwood. The Bearcats have not missed the finals since 2008.

The Tigers' victory over Sturt last week was their 15th from 16 fixtures. They are near-certainties to win the Minor Premiership, just a season removed from the Wooden Spoon.

Last time they met, the Tigers scratched up the Bearcats 92-55.

North Adelaide Rockets (5-11, 7th) v Eastern Mavericks (1-15, 10th)

The Rockets will be seeking revenge at Hillcrest when they host the Mavericks.

Last time they met, the Mavericks won their only game of the season, triumphing over the Rockets 69-66.

Last week, the Rockets overcame Centrals, while the Mavericks were downed by Norwood.
