International 3x3 Overview

With over 250 million players worldwide and among the most played recreational sports in the world, 3x3 will become a key motor for the growth of basketball. To achieve the aim of making 3x3 basketball the number one urban sport in the world, we have developed a detailed roadmap aligned with FIBA’s mission to Unite, Promote and Develop.

Creating a sustainable global basketball community by establishing the means for players and followers to unite around its common interests will be centred around the individual ranking system and the related digital platform: 3x3Planet.

Members of the 3x3Planet community will be able to interact using the mobile technology of tomorrow online, with a personalised dashboard comprising an individual ranking system that allows each player to team-up with a friend, colleague or even someone on the other side of the world – empowering those at the heart of the 3x3 project. Our 3x3Planet.com teaser website will give you a taste of things to come.

That way the number of followers can and will grow rapidly, embracing the technology to become the most popular sports community in the world.

Spreading the word about 3x3 basketball to generate interest and passion will involve the setting up of regional tournament, national tours and international competition worldwide – with the help of National Federations and independent organisers – and will represent the main channels to promote 3x3.

World Championships and a World Tour will quickly become the sport’s flagship events, while our aim is to see 3x3 basketball gain full Olympic status.

One of the biggest strengths of 3x3 is the possibility of events being held everywhere, in spectacular settings, using iconic landmarks as backdrops.

Making 3x3 widely accessible, developing it in schools’ sports programmes and providing know-how is essential for the game to grow from the base up.

Labelled as “the hottest ticket in town” at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010, the first appearance of 3x3 basketball on the international stage has made a strong impressions. A good start, but there is much, much more to come.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
