VENOM 'WILSON SECURITY' SENIOR MEN MOVE FORWARD IN 2014

After a challenging last season the new team consisting of a ten player squad, represents the first step in a rebuilding process that will provide not only an opportunity for more experienced senior players to develop,  but will also act as a pathway for the exciting talent pool that exists within the younger members of our club.

As an experienced coach, Arnold Giffening will be focusing on development whilst continuing to remain competitive. “We will continue in Division 1 and give our younger players every opportunity to excel. We have an enthusiastic and talented group of guys with the experience to not only play, but with our more experienced members, the opportunity to mentor and assist with the development of our younger players.”

Giffening has appointed Andrew Oliver as Assistant Coach, Brenton Charles as Captain and long-time Warrandyte player Josh Collins as Vice-Captain. “Everyone is focused on a team first attitude, with on-going player development being a key. We have young leaders who believe in the vision to build together and we have older more experienced players that want to play a role in that process.”

Giffening noted that the recent appointment of Beau Bentley as the new Big V Youth Men Coach will allow a more holistic approach to the Big V Men’s program, as evidenced by the decision to promote Joel “Frankie” Rimes and Taylor Hayton to the senior team to play alongside young Aidan “Squirt” Ceh, another former Youth player. “Training and development of both teams will be handled quite differently this year, with the emphasis being on the group consisting of both teams rather than one.”

“Everyone at Warrandyte shares the passion and believes in our vision for the future” Giffening said. “We have recruited some talented young players in Glen Wansborough, Keiran McGiire and Justin Holmen. These players are selfless hard working individuals and have plenty of upside for the future. The recruitment of Nathan Marsh has provided us a specialist Centre with plenty of high level playing and coaching experience. Nathan will ensure that we not only maximise our development opportunities, but also make sure that we remain competitive.”

“It took the Senior Women 7 years to win a championship. They had a vision, a pathway for their younger players and an honest belief that they could achieve their dream. We have that same dream.”
