GBL Winter Championship Division 1 Wrap- Round 11

A STUNNING 47-point performance from Cortney Williamson hasn’t been enough for Dolphins to avoid just their second loss of the season in Round 11 of the GBL Winter Championship women’s action at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

Pivot City prevailed 83-75 to move three points clear inside the top four.

After taking a handy 40-29 lead at half time, Pivot watched as Williamson dragged Dolphins back to within five points at the last break.

However, Pivot City was able to steady thanks to 22 points from Bianca Cheever and 16 from big Lauren Moloney.

Kim Martin (10 points) was the only other Dolphin to score in double figures.

YMCA has used a 20-5 third quarter to claim top spot with its 74-64 victory over Sharks.

Y led by just two points at the main break, but was able to take the game away from the reigning champions to lead 54-37 at three-quarter time.

Sharks made a run, getting the margin back to single figures, however YMCA was able to steady and claim the three points.

Maddy McMahon was again impressive for Y with 22 points, while big Tayla Roberts had 16.

Georgia Varley paced Sharks with 18 points. Star guard Alex Duck finished with 16.

Rovers maintained third spot with a comfortable 82-56 win over Try Boys.

With four five players scoring in double figures, Rovers had too many offensive options for the undermanned Bears.

Ellie Stevens poured in 19 points in her final game before returning to college in the US, while SEABL Lady Supercats’ youngsters Emily Koroneos (18) and Grace Parker (16) were also impressive.

Kendyl Collins was again Try Boys most consistent threat with 20 points, while fellow youngster Paige Sharp had 13.

A thrilling draw between Try Boys and Vytis has highlighted Round 11 of the GBL Winter Championship men’s season.

The Knights appeared well placed for their third win of the season when they led by 11 points at three-quarter time.

However, the bottom-of-the-table ladder Bears came storming home with a 17-6 final period.

Veteran Try Boys big man Marty DeLange wound back the clock with a vintage performance that produced 20 points, while Steve Hyland shot 11 points.

Steve Wiasak finished with 14 points for Vytis. Teammates Marty Liebich and Andy Przybylkiewicz both had 13.

Pivot City opened a four-point gap at the top of the ladder with a low scoring 44-28 win over second-placed Christian College.

The Pivotonians went into the clash without Jason Reardon, while the undermanned Eagles were missing leading scorer Jackson Bentley.

Steve Packer was the dominant offensive player on the floor with 16 points for Pivot City.

Youngster Conner Hultgren was best for Christian College with nine points.

YMCA consolidated its spot inside the top four with a 78-65 win over Sharks.

The good form of Lewie Varley continued, scoring 24 points.

Arnaud Lenferna was again impressive for Sharks with 17.
