Women's Rep Squad for AAMI game announced

AFL Broken Hill has announced the first ever Women's Rep Squad for  the game against Port Lincoln on August 5th at AAMI Stadium in Adelaide.

The squad selected, with their Club in brackets, is Erica Schmidt (C) Captain, Aisha Walker (N) VC , Lyndsay Kubiak (S) VC, Teagan Coombes (N), Tarnee Tester (N), Stephanie Balman (W), Amee Hogarth (W) , Xanthe Bugeja (N), Tayla Frizell (C), Katie Patison (C), Sophie Milne (C), Paige Cuy (W), Jess Ray (W), Heidi Drenkhahn (S), Kelbie Kelly (N), Amy Richards (C), Sarah Newscome (W), Kirstie Lenton (N), Serena Prout (C), Shelby Raven (C), Casey Fraser (C), Shae Nevill (S)

Emergencies: Natalie Scadding (N), Morgan Morris (S), Dee Pritchard (C)

The selected 22 represents a great mix of youth and experience said Coach Dean Martin.  Several players including Kirstie Lenton, Shae Nevill, Casey Fraser, Shelby Raven & Paige Cuy are still eligible for under 18’s and I am sure the SA State selectors will be watching closely. All the other older players also have a chance to push for SA State honours for National Carnivals.

The selection process was extremely difficult given nearly 40 trained tonight for over two hours and were all as keen as mustard said Mr Martin. We have named an additional 3 travelling emergencies to cover injuries that may crop up in the next 3 weeks plus the women will also play on the day before the REP game.

All the teams are represented which was the Selectors desire with Centrals having 8, North 6, West 5, and South (3) in the 22 which tends to reflect ladder positions.

The Selectors have chosen Erica Schmidt (pictured) from Centrals to lead to team. Co Coach Keiren Ralph said Erica deserves the chance to lead this team as she portrays excellent knowledge of the game, plays in a very positive & effective manner and will set the example on and off the field for all to follow.

Lyndsay Kubiak and Aisha Walker will be very capable vice captains and the Selectors believe all 3 ladies will bring special qualities to the teams leadership.

The off field team has also been announced with more positions available for water carriers and or first aid.

Players who missed selection are also welcome to continue to train with the squad.

AFL Broken Hill    BSB: 802 377    Acc: 44269  Notation: Your Name ...eg  Nash Rep Fee

The $100 needs to be paid by Thursday August 2nd to confirm your place in the team.

The game will be played at AAMI stadium from 2.20pm to 3.10pm and will be 2 x 22 minute halves.

AFL regulations state that the arena must be vacated 1 hour before the 4.10pm start of the Crows v Essendon game.  Stadium gate times also prevent an earlier start time without a significant cost impost. The squad will be able to have a good warm up on the arena before the game, take photos etc . Spectators will be allowed entry at 2.20pm so they will not miss the game.

Early indications suggest that the local media will be out in force with the ABC, BDT and Southern Cross Broadcasting all sending representatives to cover the game.
