Central Women the team to beat.
This Saturday sees the replay of last year’s grand final between Centrals and North’s. Reigning premiers Centrals have a changed line-up this year with captain Katie Patison and Serena Prout leaving Broken Hill.
Sophie Milne and Dee Prichard have joined North’s, Delphine and Amira have returned home overseas, Billy McMaster has back injuries, Stacey Toohey is fulltime umpiring, Em Zanette and Bonnie-May Thomas are occupied with maternal duties, Emma Harrington returned to Inverell and Jacinta Rogers retired.
New Captain Erica Wilkins is confident that the new recruits are more than capable of filling the large gaps of those leaving.
Newcomers Hannah Miller and Sarah Downing are great inclusions in the ruck to assist the stylish Tayla Frizell. Centrals are prolific goal scorers off the boots of Casey Fraser Amy Richards, Hayley Bastin and the McInnes twins Paige & Ashton never miss. The addition of world class soccer recruit Nikki Phillips has also strengthened the forward line, combined with the speed of Shelby Raven and Bella Morris (pictured) they are very hard to defend.
Last year’s best on ground at the grand final Phoebe Knell returns from school holidays and along with hard onballer Tania Roberts both can excel at either end of the field.
Unknown factors are the new recruits Paris Barrett, Bree Manoel whilst Tegan Coombes from North is a major coup for the Pies. Combined with the hard tacklers Marcia and Rebecca Millstead and Kat Monk, Centrals look set to remain undefeated.
However the silky skills of new recruit from West’sSteph Balman will undoubtedly determine the outcome of the game...where to play her full-back, full-forward or in the centre..a nice dilemma for the Coaches!
Coaches Kieren Ralph and Dean Martin assisted by Jarred Paul have the squad for another
successful season.
Central Women play North at 11.25am this Saturday at the Jube.
