NAB AFL Ausckick Ambassador Shane Crawford arrives in the Silver City today for the Auskick Gala Registration Day at the Jube at 4pm.
AFL NSW/ACT Southern Participation Manager and AFL Broken Hill Board representative, Marc Geppert, is delighted to officially announce that Shane Crawford will visit Broken Hill on Friday 18th March to attend the Auskick Gala registration afternoon. The Auskick event will take place at the Jubilee Oval from 4pm to 5.30pm under the direction of local AFL NSW/ACT appointed coordinator Brent Fennessy.
Registering 200 plus kids on the day is a thing of the past with Parents now able to register online at www.aflauskick.com.au to play for any of the four local Clubs, said Mr Fennessy. Parents will make their payment for the Auskick pack online, at a cost of $75, when they register or they can still pay on the day, if need be. The online Auskick registration process is being rolled out across NSW in 2016 and should only take a few minutes to complete, so we encourage our local families to pre register so they can maximise their time with Crawford said Mr. Fennessy.
There is also a chance to WIN 4 Tickets to a AFL Match mid year by registering online, with or without payment!
Packs will be handed out on the Friday afternoon to all registered and financial Auskickers. The four local Clubs will also have a presence on the day to assist with footy drills for the kids and a BBQ and drink will also be provided for the new Auskickers by AFL BH.
Crawford, a father of four young boys, is the ideal NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador. “one of the best things about NAB AFL Auskick is that it not only teaches children the game it also brings families together.
Crawford who replaced the legendary Dipper in the role is now one of seven official Auskick Ambassadors. He is joined in the role by current day players spread around Australia in Rory Sloane, Jeremy Cameron, Dayne Zorko, Nat Fyfe and Daisy Pearce.
Forty one year old Crawford, the 1999 Brownlow Medallist, amassed 305 games with Hawthorn winning a Premiership in 2008 and then echoing the now famous lines “that’s what I’m talking about” when receiving his medallion. Add 4 Hawthorn Best & Fairest awards, the Club captain for 5 years from 1999 – 2004, several Commercial awards and more recently an inductee into the Australian Hall of Fame and Crawford may well be the highest credentialed player to ever visit Broken Hill in an official capacity.
Post football Crawford has continued to be in the spotlight as part of the Channel 9 Footy Show and has set 5 Guinness world records whilst accepting dares from the likes of Sam Newman.
In 2010 Crawford captured the spotlight when he ran 780km from Melbourne to Adelaide as part of the Breast Cancer, raising $500,000. In late June 2013 Crawford cycled 3,600 from Melbourne to Perth in 22 days raising $1,328,249 for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Geppert is delighted to have finally secured a visit to the Silver City for Crawford, after many years of lobbying. Crawford will be joined by AFL NSW Wagga based staff that will travel to Broken Hill for the Registration day.
AFL Broken Hill with the help of the Barrier Shinglebacks will be cooking the free BBQ for the kids who will also receive a free drink and chips. AFL Broken Hill Volunteers will be onhand to help with Registrations whilst the young Auskickers are encouraged to get their footy gear on and come have a kick and catch with Crawf!
