Stacey Toohey has been appointed this Saturday to be a Senior field umpire in the clash at the Jubilee Oval between West and Centrals. Ms Toohey's appointment is a first for Broken Hill Senior football, as a Female Field Umpire, although she did officiate in a game earlier this year when a fellow umpire went down injured. At the time Ms Toohey was the emergency umpire.
Ms Toohey played in the first year of Women's Football in 2012 playing 12 games before a serious leg injury ended her season with Centrals.
The following year Ms Toohey joined the umpires group initially doing boundary umpiring before starting a career as a field umpire in the 13's, 15's and Women's grades.
By 2015 Ms Toohey often field umpired 2 junior games in the morning before running a senior boundary game in the afternoon.
Ms Toohey is a fully accredited level one Umpire and also has been accredited by AFL NSW/ACT to assess other boundary and field umpires for accreditation following her attendance at a AFL NSW/ ACT umpire Coaches Conference in March this year.
AFL BH is running three field umpires this weekend in both games as Umpire availability has improved following the return from knee surgery earlier this year of Brett Morris and Gavin Blows. Richard McLean is also back after a long layoff the result of straining ankle liagaments. On the down side popular Goal Umpire Ray Steer had a nasty fall on Monday and will be out of action for a few weeks.
