2016 U16 State teams

On Saturday evening, 25th June, our U16 State teams came together at the Jetty Bar, Glenelg, for their singlet presentation night.

With over 100 people in attendance, the function room was bursting at the seams - a terrific attendance to show support for the athletes on their special night.

We had 2 guests on the night, with Silver medal winning State Team Head Coach, Paul Salter introduced and spoke with former SA Country athlete and current Port Adelaide AFL player, Chad Wingard. Chad spoke of his experiences with SA Country and was very gracious with his time by staying until everyone who wanted a photo with him had one!

Team captains were announced on the night, with Taylah Levy (Great Southern) and Hudson Walsh (Barossa Valley) named to lead their teams into the Championships in Kilsyth.

The teams then travelled to Melbourne and settled in to their accommodations and set about preparing for games.

At the conclusion of the week, the boys had made their way to a 5/6 playoff game, losing to New Zealand to finish 6th for the tournament. The girls team lost their 9/10 playoff game to WA Metro to finish 10th.

There were some notable individual performances over the Championships, namely:

  • Sebastian Bald (Eastern Hills) twice nominated for player of the day
  • Sebastian Bald third on the average scorers list with 20 points per game
  • Sebastian Bald leading the tournament for 3 points shots made with 27
  • Jackson Walsh (Port Pirie) second on the average rebounds list with 12.5 per game
  • Hudson Walsh (Barossa Valley) fourth on the average assists with 3.62 per game
  • Hudson Walsh leading all-comers for 3 point shooting with 47%
  • Taylah Levy (Great Southern) fifth on the average scorers list with 14.5 points per game
  • Taylah Levy second on the assists list with 5.5 per game
  • Taylah Levy second on the steals list with 3.5 per game
