US College Conference Season Begins

"I was standing - you were there - two worlds collided - and they could never tear us apart"

With apologies to INXS ... am amazing event this week as two of our Boomers college players reunited on court as their college teams competed in a non conference game ... more on that shortly. And the main US college season is about to kick off as things get serious and all teams begin their conference schedule over the next week or two.

But the event of the week was our two Boomers girls catching up on court (Pic courtesy of Menekse Nakkasoglu) - Em Simon's Pacific Tigers hosted Funda Nakkasoglu's Utah State Aggies in a non conference match up at Pacific - for the record, Pacific just edged out Utah 70 - 62 ... great to the see the girls catch up after the game.

The Tigers have certainly had a cracking start to the season, currently sitting at 7 - 2 across non conference play. Em Simons is stepping up her court time and has been handed some big defensive roles in a couple of games. The Tigers kick off their conference season on December 27 in San Francisco.

Over at Utah State, Funda has had immediate impact at the Aggies and is already a consistent starter in non conference play. A bit of a set back in one game when Funda was on the wrong end of an errant elbow and copped a broken nose. A tough start to the season, with the Aggies are sitting at 3 - 7, but they are a young group and will improve over the season. Conference play begins on 31 December at San Jose State.

Meanwhile, over at Sheridan College, Sam Moodie's Generals have had a huge start to their season, currently sitting at a 12 - 2 record. The girls recently put in a huge 6 game winning streak at home and are currently on their Christmas break for a few weeks. The Lady Generals schedule resumes on 5 January in the New Year.

And finally, over in Wichita, Kansas recent reports and pics indicate that is it currently snowing ! Tessa Ramsay at the Newman Jets is no doubt missing our Aussie summer and the Jets have also been somewhat hot and cold in non conference play and are current sitting on a 3 - 5 non conference record. However, the Jets have played a number of highly ranked teams over the last few weeks, so the win loss column may not tell the whole story. A big week this week for the Lady Jets, as the girls commence their conference play with two big games at home on Thursday and Saturday against highly ranked conference opponents.

So it's all go from here for the serious end of the US college basketball season - we will bring you further updates in the New Year as to how our Boomers girls are travelling with their college teams.
