From start to finish all the boys who went though the program along with fantastic support from the coaching group have just made it a pleasure. The boys have all got on so well and embraced every trial and tribulation we have had to move through.
No doubt many boys were unlucky with the depth before us this year to miss out on final selection but their energies and efforts from the moment we hit the Cattery in mid April made this a tough but most rewarding program. 2016 presents new opportunities and I am sure others will be working hard to have their chance to represent the Sunshine Coast.
Today's game was against a strong Brisbane South East team whom had also tasted success twice this week in their championship games.
The day started with much hype and excitement as the championships again gathered momentum in the final day. The Power coaches had great difficulty in pre game selection of the final 23 and again those to miss out where unlucky as their efforts to date couldn't be faulted.
The match started with two sides very eager for the contest, the first quarter had a Sunshine Coast team for the first time in five games put under the blow torch. Things were white hot in the kitchen as the Sherrin scorched about the Burpengary main field.
For the first time we were under the pump and lucky to hold on to a reasonably narrow deficit as the siren sounded for quarter time, with Tyla West sneaking home our solitary major for the quarter. Great pressure at every contest was upon us as the Bushrangers of old held us up at every effort we made to find space.
The second quarter became an arm wrestle but really due feeling was that the BSE team were the better team to the main break. Marc Kearney marked strongly, kicking truly on the siren to put us under a goal down.
With calmness and intent the coaching staff spoke to the boys at the main break and with a few structural changes, feeling was that this was still an even contest and well and truly still up for grabs.
From this moment on the Power boys began to find that little more space and time which they were denied in the first half. With that came a better execution of skills that resulted in some great ball movement - in fact the goal of the carnival translated from a Luke Norbury goal square mark and then a coast to coast goal around the coaching box wing, back across the half forward line and bang to Noah Cumberland who converted truly. Sensational team transition goal, check it out on our Facebook page.
In this third stanza the lead changed hands four times but 3.1 to the Power with two against gave us a three point lead going in to the last break.
The fourth and final quarter of our campaign was to prove very satisfying as the foot went firm down on the peddle and five goals to one point was telling as the boys worked hard as one cohesive unit all the way to the final bell.
This was a very pleasing team performance and all boys can hold their heads high as to what we achieved as a team. Well done all - players, coaches, support staff and families. Thank you!
