Late on a bright sunny Sunshine Coast afternoon four teams did gather for the right to become the two to forward to our AFLQ-SC Josh Drummond Cup Grand Final.
Two highly anticipated games were to be staged. Games, where the experts pregame weren’t able to settle on the likely fancy. All four teams having shown some great form over the course their prior games.
The Josh Drummond Cup is the pinnacle of our Sunshine Coast schools AFL competitions. Played at a senior high school level it always promises high skill levels, speedy action and plenty of passion.
Josh Drummond having being a past Sunshine Coast student, then our most favoured son following a solid career with the Brisbane Lions. Josh is now a Development Coach with the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Game one was played out between St Johns CC and Nambour SHS, both sides having a good sprinkling of club AFL players and topped up with some quality athletes of other persuasions who love to test theirs ball skills and game sense in our great Australian game. And no doubt some of those other athletes would make for ideal AFL players.
St Johns got away to an early lead in the first and then Nambour & Hinterland senior player Lochie Laing arrived and began to control the game for the Nambour High boys.
St Johns through experienced players of Wade Nelson, James Fox, Jake Warren, Adrian Fleming and friends continued to work hard throughout the first half, keeping the John's boys in touch.
The second half the St Johns found some sound mojo and put on plenty of score board pressure placing the game beyond doubt with a nine goal second half. A second half highlight was a spectacular high one grab mark from Wade Nelson, he just got the perfect lift.
St Johns CC: 1.4; 2.4; 7.4; 11.6.72
Nambour SHS: 1.1; 3.4; 3.6; 4.9.33

Game two followed in a quieter atmosphere as a coolish wind began to bite and spectators headed for warmth.
St Teresa's first quarter was fantastic and for the fans the thought at the first break was a huge upset was on the cards. The Saints had four majors on the board before the Creekers caught their breath.
The second quarter was a far tighter affair but in accuracy in front of the big sticks may end to prove costly for the Creekers as they still trailed by near three goals.
Finally Creekers guns in Baiden Howard and Sam McKenzie decided it was time to play and in the third with the running and ball using ability of Daniel Henderson and others the Creekers sprung to life. Five goals to zip gave the Creekers a 14 point margin heading into the last.
Four goals to three in the last provided some spectacular fast flowing football but unfortunately for the Saints the upset wasn't to be. The Saints coach post game was most pleased with his chargers, how they went about the contest and their commitment and spirit within the game.
A young team the Saints are and no doubt in 2015 they will be a team to reckon with in our JD Cup competition (St Teresa's team is pictured).
St Teresa's CC: 4.1; 5.1; 5.2; 8.2.50
