COMETS TEAMMATES OFF TO COLLEGE IN THE USA
Sydney Comets youth league teammates Jack Jones and Jack Haddrick will take slightly different paths as they head to the states in August after recently receiving NCAA division 2 scholarships.
Jack Haddrick a 6'6 small forward who started playing with the program in 2006 will head to Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia for the upcoming season where he will compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). Nicknamed the battlers the team is coming off a very successful 2013/2014 season where they claimed its first GMAC championship. Head assistant coach of the program Duncan Williams was highly anticipating Jacks enrolment to the school in the fall. "Jack is a player that every successful college team should want to have. He is non stop effort on the court and knows how to use his size to his advantage. A skilled player and as his athleticism improves he will become a very good player for our program."
College of St Rose in Albany New York is the destination for the 6'8 forward Jack Jones and with six players graduating including four starters Jack will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact. Legendary head coach of the program Brian Beaury can't wait for Jack to step on campus. "Besides his obvious talents on the basketball court, he's a very good student and a terrific young man. It's clear he's been well raised, well schooled and well coached. His versatility as a player is what we see as one of his many strengths. He can score inside and out and making shots is at a premium. Jack's got a chance to be a very special player if he continues the path he's on."
Development Manager Paul Mellett was delighted of the opportunity for both players. "Hard working, high character guys who have been tremendous contributors to the program. I have no doubt they will enjoy successful college career's. On behalf of everyone associated with the program we wish both Jacks all the best as they embark on the next phase of their basketball journey and we hope to see them back in comets colours in the future."
