DAPTO DANDALOO MAKE IT FIVE STRAIGHT

Dapto Dandaloo Fury have rolled to their fifth consecutive win as they continue to stamp their authority over the 2014 Premier League season.

In a proverbial passing of the torch, Dapto Dandaloo downed last year’s premiers Port Kembla FC 2-1 at Wetherall Park on Sunday.

It’s been an impressive turnaround for the Fury, who have gone from finishing 6th last season to being undefeated through seven games to start this year’s campaign.

Sunday’s victory over Port Kembla yet again showcased the Fury’s ability to grind out important wins as four of their six victories have now come via a single goal margin.

The former champions pushed the game to the wire but it was Dapto Dandaloo that ultimately deserved the win; creating the lion’s share of chances on goal throughout the match.

Just a minute into the game Dapto Dandaloo forward Sam Munro gave a sign of things to come when he drilled a shot from inside the penalty area that forced a good save onto the post from David Poeira.

Three minutes later the Fury were on the board. When Port failed to deal with a well-placed free kick from Munro the ball fell to Dapto Dandaloo midfielder Shaun McRae who smacked a shot from inside the area that took a wicked deflection off an Port defender and into the net.

To their credit, the defending Premiers didn’t roll over to the stampeding fury as they went on the attack and found an equaliser just five minutes after conceding.

Port Kembla fullback Peter Richardson, who had a fine day bombing down the flanks, pounced on a rare defensive lapse from the Fury and pushed an errant ball past Ryan Franks to make 1-1 after only 10 minutes.

Dapto Dandaloo peppered the Port Kembla goal for the remainder of the half; McRae nearly hit his second with 25 minutes gone and then again four minutes later but could only find the keeper’s hands on both occasions.

The two teams went into halftime locked at 1-1 with the Fury unlucky not to hold a lead.

The second half saw both goalkeepers doing their best to keep their teams in the game.

First Poeira made a great save with his legs from imperious Dapto Dandaloo striker Bradley Welch then four minutes later Franks tipped a delicately flicked header from Nuno Pires wide of his goal.

The breakthrough for the Fury finally came with just 12 minutes remaining when Munro received a cutback ball from Fabian Iacovelli just outside the area and lashed home an impressive drive.

The loss sees Port Kembla remain in a disappointing 9th place as they search for the form that saw them win the league by 12 points last season.

Dapto Dandaloo now sit 2nd to Bulli by two points but hold two games in hand over the northern suburbs club.

Port Kembla 1 (P. Richardson) – Dapto Dandaloo 2 (S. McRae, S. Munro)
