ILLAWARRA MERCURY IPL RD 10 PREVIEW

Feature Match

Dapto-Dandaloo Fury vs. Woonona Sharks

Dandaloo Sports Ground

Kick-off: Sunday, 14:30.

2nd plays 3rd in this top of the table clash on Sunday as both sides will be looking to edge closer to first place.

Dapto Dandaloo still hold a two game advantage over most of the League and should they win both games they will leap-frog Bulli who currently occupy the top spot. Woonona will be hoping to inflict the Fury their first loss of the season and put some distance between themselves and a resurgent South Coast United that currently sit in 4th.

Woonona carry good form into the game having won two straight; scoring an impressive seven goals in the process. Three of those goals belong to in-form attacker Joel Mucci, who they’ll be hoping can continue his fine touch against the Fury.

Dapto-Dandaloo picked up their fifth straight victory after a hard-fought 2-1 win against reigning Premiers Port Kembla last weekend. This will be only the Fury’s third home game of the season so far but they carry formidable form having scored six goals in their previous two games at Dandaloo Sportsground.  Attacking midfielder Sam Munro will be the player to watch with two goals in his last three games.

Round 10 Previews

Fernhill vs. Wollongong Olympic

Ray Robinson Field

Kick-off: Saturday, 14:30.

Wollongong Olympic will be looking to get their season back on track after a disappointing couple of games.

Following their 5-0 mauling of Port Kembla in round 7, Olympic have fallen to 4-0 and 3-0 defeats in the last two rounds. Both losses came against top half teams in Woonona and South Coast United respectively. The match against Fernhill presents a good opportunity for Olympic to find their winning ways again.

Fernhill are also on a run of dismal form that has them sharing last place with newly promoted Bellambi on two points. Five straight losses in which they’ve conceded 12 goals leaves them with a goal difference of -18 for the season. Head coach Julio Miranda will be hoping he can turn around his club’s fortunes against the out-of-form Olympic.

South Coast United vs. Bulli FC

Ian McLennan Park

Kick-off: Sunday, 14:30.

Another top four clash on Sunday sees 1st placed Bulli taking on 4th placed South Coast United.

Bulli picked up their third straight win in round 9 and currently sit top of the league by two points over a Dapto-Dandaloo side that still have two games in hand. FC have been on a hot-streak since their loss to Dapto-Dandaloo back in round 6; smashing ten goals in the last three games. Bulli will be hoping imperious striker Ben McDonald can continue his fine scoring touch; scoring an impressive four goals in his last three matches.

After suffering defeat in the opening round of the season, South Coast United have gone undefeated with three wins and four draws. United have relied on a sturdy defence to earn them points this season; holding their opponents to nil in six of their last seven games. The defence will be much needed against a free-scoring Bulli side as South Coast will hope they can show the scoring form from round 9 as they put three past Wollongong Olympic.

Wollongong United vs. Cringila Lions

Macedonia Park

Kick-off: Saturday, 14:30

Wollongong United will be looking to back up their impressive 4-1 win against Albion Park in round 9 with a win over the 9th placed Cringila Lions.

United could potentially break into the top four should results go their way which would be an impressive feat for a team that’s been hot and cold this season. The key to victory will undoubtedly be goal-scoring sensation Robbie Shields who bagged a wonderful hat-trick in round 9 to make it five goals from his last three games and makes him the League’s leading scorer with nine goals.

Cringila managed a last minute victory over Bellambi last week and backed it up with a one-nil win over APWE on Tuesday night in a deferred match, giving them their third win of the season and pushing them equal on points with 7th. The Lions will be looking to reverse some poor away form at Macedonia Park, having come away with only a single point in their four away games this season.

Bellambi vs. Port Kembla

Elizabeth Park

Kick-off: Saturday, 14:30

Just a few months removed from being crowned champions, Port Kembla find themselves languishing in 10th place as they struggle to find their Premiership winning form.

Port have only managed five points from a possible 15 in their last five matches with their last win coming against last-placed Fernhill. The coastal club will be hoping they can spark a turnaround in form with a win against a Bellambi team that currently shares bottom place with Fernhill.

Newly promoted Bellambi are still searching for their first win of the season as they struggle to get going in the Illawarra’s top competition. Worse still for Bellambi is that they will be without midfielder Lee White who saw red in the late stages of round 9’s loss to Cringila.

Tarrawanna Blueys vs. Albion Park White Eagles

Tarrawanna Oval

Kick-off: Saturday, 14:30.

Albion Park and Tarrawanna are currently tied on 10 points, sitting in 7th and 8th respectively with both sides hoping to make a push for the top half of the table.

Tarrawanna will be hoping to end a two game losing streak and grab their first win since round 6. The Blueys weren’t able to hit the back of the net in their last two matches and will be hoping someone can step up to the plate and start scoring.

A disappointing 4-1 loss to Wollongong United in round 9 and a mid-week loss to Cringila means Albion Park will be looking to bounce back with a win to propel them above mid-table. The White Eagles haven’t had trouble scoring this season with a solid 17 goals but have been let down by defensive struggles for majority of this campaign.
