Match of the Week

Balgownie Rangers 8 – 0 Kiama Quarriers

The Balgownie Rangers have exploded for a crushing 8-0 win against Kiama at Judy Masters Oval on Saturday. Just a week removed from their 6-1 loss to Picton, Balgownie opened the flood gates to move themselves up to 10th on the ladder.

The Rangers scored four first half goals to end the match before it even got started for Kiama. A hat-trick to midfielder Brian McCarthy was the pick of the performances. Samuel Formosa added two of his own with the rest of the goals coming through Arvi Lehtsalu, Anthony Vardareff and Daniel Vardareff.

Rest of the Round

Helensburgh Thistle 5 – 0 Coniston Lions

Helensburgh moved themselves into 5th place with a thumping 5-0 win over last placed Coniston at Rex Jackson Park on Saturday. A hat-trick from Andy Wanden capped off a fine day for Thistle as they now sit just one point from the top four.

Helensburgh came out of the blocks flying with a goal from Nick Lenton just two minutes into the game. Nathan Mucci added a second just a minute later to give Thistle a 2-0 lead before five minutes had passed in the match. Wanden grabbed his first of the game in the 22nd minute as Helensburgh cruised to a 3-0 lead at half time.

Wanden scored his 2nd after the break in the 61st minute before rounding off his hat-trick and the win for Thistle in the 88th minute.

Oak Flats Falcons 0 – 1 Shell Cove FC

Only a penalty could separate the league’s top two sides as they clashed at Keith Bond Oval on Saturday. With the win, Shell Cove now move six points clear at the top while Oak Flats slipped down to 4th.

The breakthrough came for Shell Cove in the 42nd minute when the Falcons gave up a penalty. Chris Jankulovski stepped up to slot home what would be the deciding goal.

The two sides were evenly matched on the day but a red card for Oak Flats’ Beau Armstrong in the 73rd minute all but ended any chance of a comeback for the Falcons.

Corrimal Rangers 3 – 2 Wests Illawarra

The Corrimal Rangers grabbed a last second victory over Wests Illawarra at Memorial Park on Saturday. The vital win pushed Corrimal up into 2nd place on the ladder; six points behind first placed Shell Cove.

Rangers kicked things off early with a goal from Luke Piccioloni just three minutes into the game. Timothy Wylie added a second for Corrimal in the 21st minute as they looked to be cruising. Wests’ striker Andrew Breslin pulled one back three minutes later, however, to put his side within a goal at the break.

Wests found an equaliser in the 64th minute through Nathan Puljic as they looked to use their momentum to find a winner. But it wasn’t to be as Daniele Pisani came off the bench to be the last minute hero for Rangers. Pisani found the back of the net in the 92nd minute to snatch a win for Corrimal.

Thirroul Thunder 2 – 2 Kemblawarra

The Thirroul Thunder and Kemblawarra played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Saturday at Gibson Park.

Andrew Bradshaw gave the Thunder an early lead when he placed the ball into the net in just the 8th minute of the game. Kemblawarra worked their way back into the game and found an equaliser in the 32nd minute through Simon Hvalica. The score remained 1-1 at half time with both teams searching for the lead.

Just nine minutes after the restart Daniel Bond put Thirroul back into the lead. But the Thunder couldn’t hold on as Kemblawarra equalised once again through substitute Adem Akkoc.

Warilla Wanderers 1 – 0 UOW FC

Warilla Wanderers earned a 1-0 win over UOW FC at King Mickey Park on Saturday. The win puts Warilla just one point outside the top four.

A 26th minute strike from James Stewart proved to be the decisive goal in a back and forth tussle.

Despite the loss, UOW were able to hold 9th spot on the table.

Berkeley FC 2 – 2 Picton Rangers

Berkeley FC and Picton Rangers played out a hard fought 2-2 draw at Berkeley Sports Ground on Saturday. The draw meant Picton held 3rd place while Berkeley remained in mid-table at 8th.

Jarred Morley opened the scoring in the 29th minute to give Picton a 1-0 lead which they held until the half time break.

The key moment in the match came five minutes into the second stanza when the Rangers were reduced to ten men with their Goal Keeper, Brad Jones seeing Red for a challenge on an advancing forward that went wrong.

Berkeley took immediate advantage of the situation when found an equaliser through Dylan Evans in the 53rd minute and then went on to take the lead just 5 minutes later when Chris Rowlan scored his first goal of the season. Berkeley were unable to hold their lead, however, as the visitors fought back bravely and were rewarded with a share of the points when Ben Roberts found an equalising goal in the 88th minute.
