PICTON LOOK TO EXTEND HOT STREAK

Picton Rangers vs. Oak Flats Falcons

Hume Oval

Kick-off: Saturday, 3pm.

Just three points separates Picton in 2nd and Oak Flats in 6th as several teams fight for a top five finish.

Rangers are undefeated in their last eight games and have scored a staggering 27 goals during that run which has given them the best goal difference in the competition.

The string of results has left head coach Brett Morley delighted with how his team is performing.

“We’re playing pretty well at the moment, the football has been very reasonable and we’re getting on the scoresheet a lot which obviously helps,” he said.

“It’s very tight up the top of the table at the moment and this is a very crucial game for us this weekend.”

Despite their form, Picton face a stern test against the Falcons who are coming off a solid win against Balgownie last weekend.

The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in round 3 and coach Morley knows how difficult Oak Flats can be to play against.

“Obviously it’s going to be a tough one for us because they’re a tricky team to break down,” he said.

“They’ve got a good defensive record so we’re going to have our work cut out for us if we want to do some damage.

“We’re expecting them to bring their possession based, high pressing game so we’ll be looking to counter that on the day.”

While many Illawarra teams have been struggling with injuries, Rangers are fortunate enough to see a number of players become available again.

The boost in numbers comes at a good time for Picton but won’t change much in the way of game plan.

“We’ve got a few guys returning from holiday and from injury which always helps the squad numbers,” said Morley.

“I don’t think we’ll be changing too much to what we’ve been doing considering the way we’ve been going recently.

“We’ve been playing a pretty attacking sort of game so we won’t be shifting from that too much.”

Rangers will be hoping they can close the gap on league leaders Shell Cove with a win while Oak Flats could see themselves move up 3rd with a win and favourable results.

Picton will also take a lot of confidence into this league fixture on the back of their outstanding giant killing act in knocking out Premier League high flyers, Dapto Dandaloo in a Quarter Final of the Bert Bampton Cup last night(Thursday) by two goals to one.
