ALBION PARK ENDS TARRAWANNA STATE CUP AMBITIONS

With their side depleted due to injury and unavailability, and starting the game with no substitutes, Tarrawanna were still confident of putting in a good performance against Albion Park.

On the other hand, with seemingly less disruption to their preparation and team line up, Albion Park showed their intentions by attacking early. Their attack was led by the speed of their number 6, the skill of their number 12 and determination of their number 7. Despite this triple threat and being under pressure the Tarrawanna backline and goal keeper stood strong and created a number of their own attacking raids.

Albion Park was making the most of the strong wind at their back in the first half however Tarrawanna finished strongly with a couple of solid shots on goal. Although Tarra being down 3-0 at half time, it was going to be interesting to see how they would go in the second half with the wind behind them.

Almost on queue at the commencement of the second half, the wind substantially subsided. Both teams continued to press and despite 2 good goals by Tarrawanna's number 16, a penalty and 2 late goals to Albion Park gave them a deserved 6-2 victory and progression to the next round.

This was an entertaining game demonstrating the strength of womens football in the Illawarra. Congratulations to both teams for getting so far in the competition especially given the extra games they have been playing for most of the season.
