Rest of the Round

Albion Park White Eagles 2 – 2 Fernhill

Fernhill were able to capitalise on a man advantage to secure an unlikely draw against Albion Park at Terry Reserve on Saturday. Harvey Rodriguez was given his marching orders by referee Steve Bozic on the day.

The scoring started early when Andrej Gacesa was on hand to fire Albion Park into the lead in just the 3rd minute of the game. The goal was cancelled out in the 22nd minute when Daniel Swinton grabbed his third goal of the season to tie the score up at 1-1.

Albion Park retook the lead early in the second half through Bojan Caric (58’) before Rodriguez received a second yellow card seven minutes later to leave his team  a man short. Andrew Keep found the back of the net with just 11 minutes remaining to secure a precious point for last-placed Fernhill.

Port Kembla 1 – 1 Woonona

A last minute equaliser from substitute Cameron Banks earned a 1-1 draw for Woonona against Port Kembla at Wetherall Park on Saturday. The draw gives Woonona just their third point in eight games as they struggle with injuries in the second half of the season.

Douglass Woodiwiss opened the scoring in the 16th minute against his old club for Port Kembla as they looked to continue their win streak to four games. The southern suburbs club weren’t able to find the back of the net again, however, and paid the price when Banks found an equaliser with just a minute remaining in the game.

Cringila Lions 0 – 2 Wollongong Olympic

A goal in either half was enough for Wollongong Olympic to score a 2-0 win over Cringila at Crehan Park on Saturday.

Jarryd Vinton picked an ideal occasion to score his first of the season when he found the back of the net in the 36th minute whistle as both sides took time to settle into a competitive mid-table clash which threatened to boil over on a couple of. Olympic were able to carry the one goal advantage into half time with momentum on their side.

The second half saw Cringila searching for an equaliser but it was Wollongong’s Sam Gordon who scored next to give his side an important two goal cushion with 20 minutes remaining. Olympic were able to hold on for the three points that let them jump up from the tenth to eighth on the ladder.

Tarrawanna Blueys 2 – 0 Bellambi

A red card to Bellambi’s Cauis Don(2 yellows) helped Tarrawanna to a 2-0 win at Tarrawanna Oval on Saturday.

Ilija Prenzoski grabbed his sixth goal of the campaign when he pushed the ball home in the 18th minute of the game. The Blueys kept hold of the advantage all the way to the half time break as they appeared to be in control of the game.

A hard fought second half eventually ended with Jake Morlando netting Tarrawanna’s second in the 90th minute as the Blueys made it four wins in their last five games.

South Coast United 3 – 2 Wollongong United

Three goals in the games’ final seven minutes gave South Coast a stunning 3-2 win over Wollongong United at McLennan Park on Sunday.

George Naylor medallist Robbie Shields opened the scoring right on half time as he lashed in a half volley for a 1-0 Wollongong lead.

Wollongong took a two goal lead in the 60th minute when Brian Montinari was sent through on goal to finish coolly past Jason Bleakley.
A short time later the same two players were involved in a similar situation but this time roles were reversed with Bleakley coming out on top with a save which kept his team in the game.
The Bert Bampton Cup champions must have thought they had the game wrapped up with ten minutes remaining but a goal in the 85th minute from Dinko Terzic put them on the back foot. Five minutes later, Chris Valic nodded home a header from a corner to tie up the score before Tommy Skara drove the ball home in the 93rd minute to secure a remarkable comeback.
