ILLAWARRA CREDIT UNION DL RD 22 PREVIEW

Warilla Wanderers vs Kemblawarra

King Mickey Park

Kick-off: Saturday, 3pm.

Referee: John Ruscica

Warilla Wanderers host Kemblawarra in this weekend’s Illawarra Credit Union District League feature match.

Warilla will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss in round 21 to Berkeley as they look to realise their promotion dream.

The Wanderers sit 2nd on the ladder, 10 points shy of competition leaders Shell Cove FC, and are hoping that this is the season they get the nod to jump up to the Premier league after coming close on several occasions in the past.

“The priority is top two, if we’re top two then there’s a chance of promotion,” said Wanderers’ head coach Barney King.

“Warilla Wanderers are very ambitious and we want to get promoted if possible; we think we meet all the criteria so we just need to get the results.”

The club will have to avoid any more slip-ups like the one last weekend if they hope to maintain their spot on a ladder that sees just five points separating 2nd from 6th.

“It was very disappointing for us last weekend because we didn’t play well at all,” said King.

“Prior to that we’d won seven straight but we need to get back on track now considering how congested it is at the top of the table.

“If we bounce back well, last week’s loss won’t be such a bad thing.”

Kemblawarra have turned in some good form in recent weeks after an inconsistent season.

The club’s most impressive performance came in a 2-0 upset of finals contenders the Oak Flats Falcons last weekend.

The result has put the top teams on notice that despite the unpredictable season, Kemblawarra are still capable of beating the competition’s better teams.

“We’re expecting a tough game, they had a good result last week by beating one of the top sides,” said King.

“We’ll need to be up for it, three points is absolutely critical for us.

“We need to win these games, if we can’t do that then we don’t deserve to be up there.”

Warilla are welcoming back several players from either injury or holiday that will help the club with their run into the finals.

A competitive outing is expected at King Mickey Park on Saturday as a positive result will mean a lot to both teams.
