WOMENS COMPETITION ROUND 18 PREVIEW

Illawarra Master Builders Women’s Division One

Round 16 of the Women’s First Division saw the all-conquering Albion Park Women’s team wrap up the league championship with two games to spare. The title adds to a growing trophy cabinet of the club after they won the NSW State Cup earlier this season. Albion Park have been far and away the competition’s best side this season, racking up 15 wins in 16 games and scoring 69 goals while only conceding eight in the process. Last year’s Golden Boot and Player of the Year winner Shakiah Tungai has been in stellar form again.

With the final game of the regular season set to be played this weekend teams are looking towards the finals series that will see the top four from the eight team league face off. Albion Park, Tarrawanna Blueys and Wollongong Olympic have already qualified for the finals but the race to fourth is still on.

Thirroul currently occupy the final playoffs spot on 28 points while Woonona sit fifth with 25 points and are still in with a shot if they can have results go their way this weekend. Thirroul are in the driver’s seat as they travel to play seventh placed Balgownie while Woonona have an uphill task as they take on the third placed Wollongong Olympic.

Albion Park are the favourites but anything can happen in finals football so expect an entertaining series from a competitive league.

Illawarra Master Builders Women’s Division Two

Things are much more settled in the Women’s Second Division with the top four teams being settled since Round 15 of the season.

Shellharbour have taken the league championship with a game in hand as they sit four points clear over Fernhill. Again the top side has been dominant throughout the season, going undefeated and scoring 77 goals while only conceding 15. Shellharbour’s best win came back in Round 6 when they put 15 goals past Shell Cove.

With Shellharbour and Fernhill already qualified, Unanderra and Port Kembla round out the teams who will be competing in the finals. Port Kembla can leapfrog Unanderra into third place if results go their way in the final game as they sit a single point behind.

Illawarra Master Builders Women’s Division Three

Helensburgh wrapped up the league championship with three games to spare in what has been an astounding season for the club.

With one game left in the season, Helensburgh have an 11 point buffer over second placed Corrimal and currently hold a preposterous 113 goal difference that’s helped them win every game they’ve played this season. Berkeley sit two points behind Corrimal and could leapfrog them into second if they win on the weekend and Corrimal lose or draw.

The race for fourth place and a shot in the finals is going right down to the wire. Coledale and Kiama currently share the position on 26 points but Coledale have the superior goal difference giving them the edge. Both teams face difficult opponents this weekend with Kiama facing second placed Corrimal while Coledale will take on the team directly above them in Berkeley. Goal difference could be the deciding factor in this one.

Better Business Accounting Women’s Division Four

With two games remaining in the Women’s Fourth Division Tarrawanna have taken home the league championship.

The club are on course for an undefeated season as they sit seven points clear of the Russel Vale Pink in second place. Woonona are safe in third with a 15 point gap between themselves and Helensburgh.

Helensburgh aren’t guaranteed a place in the finals, however, as they’re locked in a battle with the Oak Flats Falcons for fourth. Just a point separates the sides but the Falcons hold a one game advantage that could see them jump into the finals. It won’t be easy, however, as the two teams face each other this weekend. If Helensburgh get the win they’ll earn a four point gap and a certain spot in the playoffs.
