ILLAWARRA MERCURY IPL RD 22 WRAP

Tarrawanna Blueys 2 – 1 Cringila Lions

Rick Goodchild scored with the last kick of the game to secure a 2-1 win for Tarrawanna over Cringila at Tarrawanna Oval on Saturday.

The Blueys took the lead early on when goalkeeper-turned-striker Christian Pretto opened the scoring in the 12th minute. The goal was wiped out just two minutes later, however, when Aleks Angelkoski drew Cringila level. No more goals in the first half saw the teams enter the break all tied up at 1-1 but Tarrawanna had their backs to the wall after Nick Morgan received his marching orders as early as the 32nd minute.

The match looked like petering out into a draw until Goodchild popped up to earn the home side a last gasp win to finish off the season.

Fernhill 0 – 5 South Coast United

South Coast United will enter the finals with good momentum after crushing Fernhill 5-0 at Ray Robinson Field on Sunday. Dinko Terzic scored four goals on the day in the pick of the performances.

Terzic opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after South Coast settled into the game for a 1-0 lead. Youngster Jack Lombo added another just before the half to ensure they entered the break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.

The second half began as the first half ended with a goal in the first five minutes from Terzic. Seven minutes later the attacker added a fourth for South Coast and sealed his hattrick. Terzic wrapped up the scoring a few minutes later as the visitors ran out 5-0 winners.

The result leaves Fernhill staring relegation to the District League and will need to wait until all Premier League Applications for 2015 have been screened to learn their fate.

Dapto Dandaloo Fury 2 – 1 Wollongong Olympic

A goal in both halves was enough for Dapto Dandaloo to secure a win over Wollongong Olympic at Dandaloo Sports Ground on Saturday.

Shaun McRae got things underway in the 13th minute with a goal to put the Fury into an early lead. Neither side could find the back of the net again in the first half as Dapto Dandaloo carried their 1-0 lead into the break.

The Fury doubled their advantage midway through the second half when Bradley Welch scored his fourth goal of the season in the 66th minute. Jarryd Vinton managed a late consolation for Olympic in the 91st minute but the Fury will take a winning momentum into the finals.

Woonona 1 – 2 Bellambi

Bellambi scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the game to earn a comeback win and seal their place in the Premier League for another season with a win over Woonona at Ocean Park on Saturday.

Adam Di Pietro gave Woonona an early lead when he finished neatly inside the opening 15 minutes of the game. Bellambi couldn’t find an equaliser for the remainder of the half as Woonona took the narrow advantage into the break.

The Rosellas remained competitive for most of the game and their hard work paid off in the 75th minute when Nathan Sutcliffe tapped the ball in to restore parity. Ten minutes later Bellambi hit the lead when Michael Baveas converted from the penalty spot to secure the vital win.

Port Kembla 1 – 0 Wollongong United

Port Kembla earned a confidence boosting win on the eve of the finals with victory over Wollongong United at Wetherall Park on Saturday.

Both sides started out a competitive match with some wasted chances early on but it was defender Peter Richardson who broke the deadlock just before the half time whistle to give Port Kembla the lead.

Wollongong United were left wondering how this one got away as they hit the woodwork on a number of occasions and found David Poeira in the Zebras goal, in inspired form, with Port able to hold onto the slim margin and come away with the three points.
