5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL

Futsal at the Frat or “fratsal” as it’s known, has undergone a re-branding by Football South Coast after changes were made to the competition rules.

Five-a-side football (still being held at the Fraternity Club) is the new competition blending traditional outdoor football with futsal.

Five-a-side competition manager, Jonathan Forster explained, “For a start, the playing courts aren’t the size of regulation futsal courts, and some of the rules we were going by aren’t like regular futsal rules either.  As a result, we thought it was best to produce a competition that mixed traditional outdoor football with futsal.”

There have been some tweaks to the rules that will make games more like modified outdoor football as opposed to futsal.  An example of this is the rule about passing back to the goalkeeper…in futsal you can’t play back to the goalkeeper once receiving it from them; in five-a-side you will be allowed to play back to the keeper as you please.

“It’s more the little changes being made to rules that will help to provide a more simplified game for players.  It’s nothing major, just small changes that give the competition a bit more structure and its own identity,” Forster said.

The new five-a-side competition will begin Monday 12 January, 2015.  The competitions are as follows:

Monday nights:          Women’s; Mixed league 1; U7/8 mixed; U9/10 boys

 Tuesday nights:          Men’s div. 2; Men’s div. 3; U9/10 girls; U13/14 girls

 Wednesday nights:     Men’s premier; Men’s div. 1; U13/14 boys; U15/16 boys

Thursday nights:         Men’s amateurs; social mixed league; U15/16 girls
