500 women’s players will descend onto Woonona’s Ocean Park, as the women’s football season kicks off this weekend with the Bonnie Lassie pre season Tournament being played over Saturday and Sunday.

A record 36 teams from three women’s divisions and some under 18’s have entered the competition.
For the first time in the Bonnie Lassies history Football South Coast extended an invitation to the under 18 girls to take part in the games over the weekend, with 7 under 18s entered with the intention that the tournament will serve as an introduction into the women’s competition and strong numbers will flow into the women’s competition for years to come. The big numbers highlights the popularity and growth of women’s football in the Illawarra.

The Bonnie Lassie will see 6 pools of 6 teams from different divisions go up against one another. Firstly in a round robin and then top teams from each pool wiii progress to the elimination stage.

It serves as a great hit out for all teams before the competition starts on 12/4/2015.

Current state champions and title heavyweights Albion Park will be out to claim the first piece of silverware on offer for the season but will have to get past rivals Tarrawanna and last year’s Grand Finalist Thirroul.

Games will run from 8:30-5:30 on both Saturday and Sunday,

The weekend will be a celebration of women’s football in the Illawarra and will showcase a lot of local and upcoming talent.
