YOUNG SOCCEROOS V BRAZIL U20

Venues NSW is proud to partner with MGC Match Event to host an international friendly match between the Young Socceroos and the Brazil Under 20 National Team at WIN Stadium in Wollongong on Wednesday 27 May 2015.

Venues NSW continues to work closely with Football South Coast, Football Federation Australia, and FIFA match agents, MGC Match Event, to bring elite football to the Illawarra region.
“Venues NSW is proud to once again host the Young Socceroos at WIN Stadium. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the Illawarra football community to support our National Youth (Under 20) Football Team” said Stuart Barnes, General Manager, WIN Stadium.

“It’s fantastic that Wollongong continues to attract football games like this, following on from some great success with other international friendlies, and the first Hyundai A-league fixture featuring Sydney FC at WIN Stadium earlier this year. It’s a testament to the supportive football community we have here and a top class venue in WIN Stadium, to host these events,” said Ann-Marie Balliana, CEO,Football South Coast.
This international friendly match forms part of the build up to the FIFA U20 World Cup – The Road to New Zealand, between 30 May and 20 June this year.

Brazil progressed to the U20 FIFA World Cup finals, qualifying fourth in the CONEMBOL confederation. The competition’s record 11-time champions include attacking midfielder Marcos Guilherme, striker Thalles, and the skilful 17-year-old Malcom. The coach, Alexandre Gallo, was a defensive midfielder who won state championships with Sao Paulo, Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians. Gallo became Brazil’s U-20 coach in 2013.
Brazil has appeared in 16 of the 18 editions of the tournament, missing out in Japan 1979 and Turkey 2013. Brazil has won five FIFA U-20 World Cups, one shy of record champions Argentina. Two-time winners Portugal is the only other country to have lifted the trophy more than once. Brazil’s U-20 World Cup graduates include Bebeto, Dunga, Jorginho, Taffarel, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho Gaucho, Kaka, Adriano, Dani Alves, Alexandre Pato, Oscar and Philippe Coutinho.

The Young Socceroos did not qualify for the 2015 U20 FIFA World Cup but will be a strong opponent for Brazil in their last preparation match prior to the group stage matches in New Zealand.
