BERT BAMPTON CUP FINAL

Bert Bampton Cup Final

Dapto Dandaloo Fury v Wollongong United @ Crehan Park kick-off 2.30pm Sunday 2 August

This year’s Bert Bampton Cup Final sees two of the Premier League’s most entertaining teams go head to head.

The Fury will be trying to build on their 2015 silverware collection, after winning the pre-season Fraternity Cup, while United will be out to take the Bampton Cup for the second year in succession after last year’s 1-0 final victory over Port Kembla.

A run of good results for both teams in the league has seen them jump to first and third before this weekend’s matches. Fitness will be a factor, however, as both teams will play Round 18 league games on Saturday.

Both teams had a bye in the first round of this competition so have three wins under their belts to get them to the final. The Fury overcame Bellambi, Port Kembla and Tarrawanna Blueys. The Lions have beaten District League leaders Picton, Bulli and then Woonona in the semi-final on their way to today’s final.

Cameron Morgan has scored in every round so far for the Fury, so he'll be looking to make it a complete set with another today.

United have seen the return of key players Karouna  Michael and Kota Kawase recently. Matt Floro, who scored the quarter final winner against Bulli, returns this week too and may get a nod this afternoon.

The two teams have met twice already this year with each team winning the away fixture by a goal. We can expect another close game today that may just go the full distance.

Youth Cup Final

Dapto Dandaloo Fury v Woonona @ Crehan Park – kick-off 12.15pm Sunday 2 August

We can expect a closely fought battle between teams that stand in third and fifth in the Youth League ladder ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. The teams are tied at one win apiece in their league encounters, with both sides winning the away fixture.

To get to the final the Fury have overcome Albion Park White Eagles, Port Kembla and Bellambi, while their opponents beat Wollongong United, Cringila Lions and Fernhill to get to this stage.

If the final goes to spot kicks, Dapto Dandaloo might feel they have the upper hand, having beaten Port Kembla 4-1 on penalties after their quarter final ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Lee Kizi is the Fury’s top scorer this season. He scored in the semi-final win over Albion Park, and against Woonona on the opening day of the season back in August.

Samuel Spargo is Woonona’s key man in attack. He also scored in the semi-final win over Wollongong United, though it was Luke Mittwollen who got the only goal when Woonona beat the Fury in the league a few weeks ago.
