FOOTBALL SOUTH COAST PRESS RELEASE

Football South Coast is pleased to announce a new representative football club – South Coast Flame FC.   From Season 2018, the Football South Coast Association club will begin to compete in the Football NSW State League in the Under 18’s, 20’s and First Grade.

The club will be known as South Coast Flame FC. The name Flame was inspired by the Illawarra Flame Tree which is a natural icon of our region. The second component of the ‘Flame’ relates to the iconic flames that reflect the steel industry, the associated multiculturalism and history that has enriched our region with its passion for football.

The new 3D logo features a flame on a blue background which also incorporates the three other colours of Football South Coast (Blue, Green and Gold – which represents the region’s blue skies, our magnificent rich green escarpment and the pure gold sands of our fabulous beaches).

FSC as an association has been part of representative football for many years now and currently have a Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) and Association Youth League (AYL) license within FNSW Competitions and programs.

“This additional pathway through South Coast Flame FC will provide players beyond 16 years of age with opportunities to remain within our current regional professional and full time representative structure” said Football South Coast Chairman, Eddy De Gabriele. “FSC have many players leaving our region every year to seek representative football, this new FSC Association Representative Club will provide additional opportunities and choice for the 10,000 juniors that are currently part of our game in the region’.

The vision and philosophy for the club is to provide our association players and coaches with a representative club that is focused on local player and coaching development. It is the strategic vision of the club to be part of the 2019 FNSW National Premier League.

South Coast Flame has appointed Paul Robaard as First Grade coach. Paul is an AFC C license qualified coach and will soon be embarking on the AFC B Licence course. Paul has an extensive player career having played 2 years in the National Youth League, 5 years in the State League and 15 years in the local Illawarra Premier League. As a coach, Paul has been involved at both State and local levels and has been part of the FSC coaching staff for the previous 6 years.

Neil Mineef will be the 20’s coach and Darren Jones will be the 18’s coach for the 2018 season. Neil has been coaching with FSC for 2 years and has played and coached at both State and local Illawarra Premier League levels and is currently completing his AFC B Licence. Darren brings 15 years Illawarra Premier League experience as a player winning Bert Bampton and Premier League titles and has recently completed his AFC C Licence coaching qualification.

FSC Technical Director Jonathan Forster said, “given the success of our FSC representative junior sides, it’s crucial to complete a player pathway for aspiring young local footballers who wish to continue their football development with South Coast Flame FC”
