WOMEN'S DIV 1 - ROUND 1

Clearly Wollongong was experiencing some Melbourne weather with the bright sunshine of the previous game gone and this game kicking off in light drizzle.

Unfortunately for Balgownie, an infringement in the penalty box gifted Olympic with a 1- nil lead, within the first few minutes of the game. Meanwhile seven minutes later, good lead up work by Olympic, saw them extend their lead to 2-0.

The first half ended with Olympic well ahead statistically in territory, possession and shots on goal.

Balgownie had a good chance early in the second half with a well delivered corner finding the feet of a player in front of goal, but she was unable to execute her shot.

Meanwhile Olympic had a cracking free shot on the edge of the box with the ball curling around the wall but unfortunately straight to the keeper.

Midway through the half, Olympic scored their third goal, a skillful effort from Emi Skopal following a good run into the box.

Unfortunately for Balgownie, on the day, Olympic were hungrier and faster to the ball and despite some good saves by their keeper, they finished 4 – 0 down. With their bright start and although early, Olympic are looking like serious title contenders this season.
