IPL- R7 - BLUEYS BEAT BULLI IN 5 GOAL THRILLER

A late solo effort from top scorer Wandi Jajaw gave Tarrawanna Blueys the three points after Bulli had earlier come back from two goals down.

First half goals from Ilija Prenzoski and Nicholas Morgan gave Tarrawanna a comfortable cushion at half time, but Bulli's Julian Minutillo and Ben McDonald levelled the scores before Jajaw's late winner.

Bulli had the better chances early on when Scott Curran and Hayden Mowbray linked up before Curran's shot was saved down low by Christian Pretto.

Guy Knight's in-swinging corners from the right caused problems for the Tarrawanna defence, and one even curled straight onto the woodwork in Bulli's nearest first half effort.

Matt Naylor was unlucky to see his long range effort zip past the far post with Pretto beaten.

Tarrawanna took the lead, though, just before the half hour when Jajaw's shot flew into a crowded area but Prenzoski was on hand to fire the loose ball home.

The Blueys doubled their lead ten minutes later when Bulli keeper Ben McGinnes just failed to keep out Morgan's spot kick after Jajaw had been brought down in the area.

And the visitors came close to increasing their lead as Darren Stone set up Rick Goodchild but his left foot shot flew well over.

Bulli opened the game up after the break and shook off Tarrawanna's tight first half marking.

Their first goal was not long in coming after a long ball out of defence found Cameron Littler on the right wing. His cross was met by Minutillo who fired the ball into the back of the net.

As Bulli pressed for an equaliser, Tobin Zoomers produced the shot of the match from about 40m out and was unlucky to see the ball slam against the upright.  Minutes later Minutillo almost got his second, forcing a point blank save out of Pretto.

It was a series of in-swinging corners from Knight that led to Bulli's second. Ben McDonald managed to make space for himself and latched onto one of the corners for his 7th goal of the campaign, making Bulli look the more likely winners.

But it was Jajaw who nicked the winner for the visitors in the 86th minute. He won the ball down the left, tucked inside past two defenders, saw his first shot blocked and then followed up with a second on the rebound.

Tarrawanna coach Luke McGuire called it a gutsy win. 'It's always tough when you have a team like Bulli bearing down on you like that, and you could see the different fitness levels in the two teams with so many games of ours being cancelled in recent weeks. But this was a character-building win for the boys.'

Bulli, coach Ben Smith praised the 'effort and spirit of the boys' coming back from two down and was disappointed to lose but gave full credit to the Blueys for their performance and for sticking to their task.

In other games this weekend, Albion Park White Eagles come from behind to beat Wollongong Olympic whilst a brace for Ricky Zucco was enough to see Dapto Dandaloo overcome a stubborn Bellambi 2-1. Port Kembla and Cringila ended 2-2 whilst Wollongong United left it very late to salvage a 2-2 draw at Woonona. Shell Cove picked up their first point of the season with a scoreless draw at home to South Coast United.
