WOMEN'S DIV 1 - ROUND 18

Match Report  Division 1 Round 18

Fernhill currently sitting 5th on the ladder with 2 games in hand hosting Wollongong Olympic who are second on the ladder.

Olympic enjoyed early dominance in the game with strong runs and good ball distribution from the midfield. They had to be patient though and wait until around the 30th minute to capitalise. Great lead up down the right hand side saw a cross to Skopal in front of goal who made easy work of a one on one situation against the Fernhill keeper.

Stung by the goal the Fernhill girls lifted their game and competed vigorosly for every ball. Unfortunately for them, great play out of the Olympic defence and another strong attack down the right hand side saw an Elyse Batten header make it 2-nil to Olympic about 5 minutes before half time.

Just on half time Fernhill were unlikey to score from a long range dipping shot just saved by the keeper.

Positional changes for Fernhill at half time were paying dividends. With their number 16 moved from defence to attack, there was much more pressure on Olympic defence.

Unfortunately as Fernhill were gaining momentum, the game was held up for about 10 minutes due to a serious injury to their number 10 Jessica Haken.

Shortly after the resumption Fernhill were able to claw a goal back following good work by their number 11 causing confusion in the Olympic defence.

Fernhill continued to press for an equaliser and looked dangerous with long balls out of defence, however the score remained Olympic 2 Fernhill 1.
