FRAT CUP - R2 - Tarrawanna v Port Kembla

HARD FOUGHT VICTORY TO PORT KEMBLA AGAINST THE

TARRAWANNA BLUEYS

After Round one losses last week, a win in Round two Fraternity Club Cup match between Port Kembla and the Tarrawanna Blueys was important to both teams. However, in a tough but entertaining encounter, Port Kembla was able to dominate and come away with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Tarrawanna Blueys.

The first half began with both sides missing opportunities to score including a missed free kick for Port Kembla’s Cameron Morgan which went wide of the post.

Eventually in the 23rd minute, Tarrawanna Bluey’s Rick Goodchild had a chance to put one in but it hit the goal post. Fortunately for the Blueys, Scott Simpson kicked the rebound past the goal keeper for the first goal of the match. Tarrawanna Blueys 1 – Port Kembla 0.

Tarrawanna Blueys had two more attempts at goals in the first half. The first attempt being saved by the Port Kembla goal keeper and the second attempt went wide of the goal.

The score at half time remained Tarrawanna Blueys 1 – Port Kembla 0.

The second half began with Tarrawanna Blueys Rick Goodchild taking a shot at goal from the start of play however Port Kembla’s goal keeper Ryan Franks had no trouble saving it.

More action followed with Port Kembla scoring its first goal 42 seconds into the second half. A fumbled attempted save by the Tarrawanna Blueys goal keeper Christian Pretto from a corner kick enabled Port Kembla’s Takao Teramotto to kick the ball into the right hand side of the goal to make the score 1 – 1.

Tarrawanna Blueys hit back straight away with a good counter attack which lead to a goal in the middle of the net by Tarrawanna Blueys player Darren Stone. The second half was only two minutes old. Tarrawanna Blueys 2- Port Kembla 1.

Port Kembla attempted to hit back straight away with Nick Hardey trying to volley the ball from outside the box but it went over the goal.

It wasn’t too long before Port Kembla hit back again this time with a goal in the 17th minute, by Takao Teramotto who at this stage scored his second. Nick Hardey crossed the ball in outside the box which goal keeper Pretto fumbled enabling Teramotto to tap the ball in from in front of the goal. The game was now drawn at 2-2.

Takao Teramotto finished off the match for Port Kembla when he went sliding in to put the ball into the back of the net for his hatrick and Port Kembla now led 3-2.

Tarrawanna Blueys kept trying with one more attempt at goal by Jacob Fryday.

The second half was entertaining and hard fought with Port Kembla dominating possession and taking every chance to score. Tarrawanna Blueys never gave up though but at full time they were defeated. The full time score being Port Kembla 3 – Tarrawanna Blueys 2.

Tarrawanna Blueys will be looking to improve in their round three match against Albion Park White Eagles while Port Kembla will be looking to progress to the semis with a strong win over Wollongong Olympic FC next Sunday.
