Women's Division 1 - Round 1 Review

The Buliders Club Women's competition kicked off last weekend with 8 teams and 4 games. All teams showing off their new recruits in an interesting round of action.

Wollongong Olympic started the season well with a 2-0 win over Balgownie. Wollongong Olympic's Sophie Lederer scoring a brace to get Olympic off to a good start. Balgownie battled hard during the game led by the reliable Lisa Tolson however Olympic were just too strong with Le-Tisha Kable and Samantha Clarke controlling the game. Olympic will go into their marquee match against Albion Park full of confidence following this win.

Woonona is another side to look out for this year and they started well with a 3-1 win over neighbours Thirroul. Sinead Bailey helped herself to two goals for Woonona whilst All Star player Shenae Bryce got the other goal. Thirroul were in much of the game however just couldn't capatilise on those half chances when it mattered most. Zoe Grew getting om the scoresheet for Thirroul.

Tarrawanna had a good season last year and they started their 2016 campaign with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Helensburgh. Tarrawanna have a nice blend of experience and youth in the team and perhaps this just might be their year. Kahlia Muilwyk scored two goals complemented by Camille Augustyn, Frances Halloway, Kerry Matthews and Jasmin Pearce all with a goal a peice to round off a day Helensburgh ladies would perhaps rather forget. Tarrawanna take on Woonona this week in what shapes as a close match up.

The current League Champions also had a monster win on the weekend pummelling Port Kembla 8-0. Port Kembla just had no answers to the regular Albion Park raids. Their pace, strength and finishing was just too much for a youthful Port Kembla side. Kristina Glisic, Chivonne Robb, and Shakiah Tungai all scored two each with Shaeley Aldridge and Casey-Leigh Suttle bagging a goals as well. Faith Atkins did not get amongst the goals however she was instrumental in many of the countless raids Albion Park created. Port Kembla will be looking to bounce back this week when they play Balgownie with Albion Park taking on Wollongong Olympic.
