Women's Division 1 - Round 2 Review

Womens Review Round 2

Both Port Kembla and Balgownie were keen to get off the mark in Round 2 following opening round loses. It was Port Kembla that came out on top following a comprehensive display that saw them run out 4-1 winners. Brooke Alves was causing the Balgownie defence all sorts of problems particularly when combining with Kristina Janeska. Brooke managed to score two goals with Alexandra Adams and Irene Kyriacou also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Skye McPherson managed to get a consolation goal for Balgownie. Credit also to Kristy Philpott from Balgownie who was perhaps the best on the day from the visiting team.

Port Kembla travel to Thirroul this week in what should be in interesting game whilst Balgownie host neighbours Tarrawanna.

The two sides that featured in the Bonnie Lassie Final this year were reacquainted again in round 2. It was Albion Park however that sought some revenge following their Preseason Cup loss when they beat Olympic in a nail biter 4-3. These two sides showed why they are amongst the favourites this year with regular synchronised attacks in a free flowing game.

Kristina Glisic scored two good goals for Park whilst the reliable Brittany Ring also scored along with Nicole McCracken. For Olympic, Le-Tisha Kable scored for the second week in a row with other goals coming from Sophie Lederer and Alexandra Scobie.

Wollongong Olympic host the winless Helensburgh this week whilst Albion Park host a surging Woonona side who is riding high on confidence at the minute.

There was another cracking game at Ocean Park on the weekend when Woonona hosted Tarrawanna. Both teams were coming off good wins in round 1. Woonona however showed that they mean business in 2016 after they accounted for Tarrawanna 3-1 in a game that was in the balance for the best part.

Angela Graham, Jordan Wheatley and Sinead Bailey popped up to score for the home side with Elizabeth Lawson grabbing a goal for Tarrawanna. Ebony Fraser and Angela Graham were perhaps the standouts for Woonona with the experienced Frances Halloway the pick from the losing side.

Woonona travel to Albion Park in an early top of the table clash with the winner getting a good jump on the chasing pack. Tarrawanna will fancy their chances at Balgownie this week as they look to get themselves back on track.

In the final fixture, Thirroul thumped Helensburgh 6-0. Unfortunately, we do not have current details of that match at the time of publishing. Thirroul though host Port Kembla this week whilst Helensburgh will have their work cut out for them as they meet Wollongong Olympic.
