Fernhill outfox the Balgownie

Fernhill Foxes secure another win of the season defeating Balgownie rangers 1-0 at home in a tight match with the scales tipping in the reds favour for the afternoon. A good follow up run by Scott Muilwyk dinked home in the 60th minute to lock in three points and a step towards a successful season for the Foxes.

Balgownie looked the stronger of the two sides early on with a number of shots being forced to be blocked by the Fernhill defence and midfield within the opening 15 minutes, the best of which came from a chipped through ball from Jackson Durnett to Mitch Hoswell on the right hand side over the defence ending in a shot into the Fernhill Keeper Aizira Taysubayasnis safe hands.

Fernhill responded with two strong and dangerous plays within minutes of each other, at 14 minutes Dean Morosin had a low shot at the keepers near post, while a minute later, Marc Sergi entered into a 1v1 on the left side, performed some dazzling skill to end with a shot over the bar.

Fernhill stamped their authority in the game at home with the next few shots at goal belonging to them. One of their memorable moments involved centre back Luke McDonald joining the attack, receiving a back pass from midfield at the half way line, traveling unpressured to the edge of the box where a shot was curled over the bar and out for a goal kick.

Balgownies best chances also came within minutes of each other. The first in the 33rd minute when Lachlan Veney caught wind of a through ball down the right hand side to cut in and shoot across the face of goal with no disturbance. The resulting play out from the back led to an interception by Nick Morgan approximately 28 yards out, and with no pressure let fly a long range effort at goal, it seemed as though time and space stood still for the moment while everyone watched the ball sail into the woodwork, bouncing off the crossbar and into (keeper)s hands.

The Foxes scored in delightful fashion as Muilwyk followed up a through ball from the right side of the box which was disguised as a shot along the floor from substitute Chris Hobbs, Muilwyk poked the ball over a diving Chris Todd and into the roof of the net to the delight of the Foxes supporters.

Balgownie were not without chances in the second half, pushing forward a number of times showing their true grit and a never say die attitude. Jake Boyle made sure to keep the Fernhill defence on edge and uneasy with skill to take on three defenders and shoot near post in the 83th minute, as well as latching onto a perfectly timed through ball and even better timed run in the 88th minute to engage Taysubayasni in a gut retching 1v1 leading to a carefully placed finesse shot curling towards the far post, only for the strong fingers of Taysubayasni to send the ball onto the far post nicking the outside and out for a corner.

This match was more even than not with a shared number of free kicks, corners and a balance of possession throughout both halves. Both teams and supporters were pleased with the efforts on the park and look forward to a number of exciting matches that lie in wait for these two trophy hungry clubs.
