WOMEN'S DIVISION 1 - SEMI FINALS PREVIEW

A great finish to the Women's Division One competition saw Tarrawanna pip Albion Park for the League Championship. We now head into the finals series featuring Tarrawanna, Albion Park, Woonona and Wollongong Olympic.

Sunday 21 August - both games at Ocean Park - 2.00pm

Tarrawanna v Albion Park

The winner of this match goes straight into the Grand Final so there is much at stake in this one with neither side keen on taking their chances in an elimination match against the winner of the Woonona v Olympic match.

These sides have met three times through the season with Tarrawanna taking two of the matches (Round 5, 3-2 and Round 19, 3-0). Albion Park did beat Tarrawanna in Round 8, 2-1. These matches effectively have been very close and surely this one will be no different.

Kahlia Muilwyk - 23 goals is the leading goal scorer in the competition and she has been a big part of Tarrawanna's success this year. Albion Park will need to stop her if they are going to be any chance.

Albion Park are not without their big guns either though with Brittany Ring - 18 goals and Shakiah Tungai - 17 goals leading the way for the Park.

This one could go either way and I'm tipping Albion Park to win this one in Extra Time.

Woonona v Wollongong Olympic

This will be the end of the road for one of these two teams this weekend. Woonona have put up a valient effort to take the title however they just fell short and will be looking to at least extend their season one more game with the view of getting something out of the season.

Wollongong Olympic on the other hand despite finishing fourth have already had a good season. They took out the pre-season Bonnie Lassie Cup and only just fell short to Albion Park in the State Cup Final. They too will be looking to finish the season on a high.

It's quite an interesting game with each team winning in the only two matches they met this year. Woonona won 1-0 in Round 7 and Wollongong Olympic reversed that winning 2-0 in Round 17. One thing is almost certain, this will be another close game.

Woonona's top scorer is Sinead Bailey - 13 goals. They appear to have just conceded 2 goals in their last 7 matches so this may just be their ticket to the final.

Wollongong Olympic on the other hand have relied somewhat on Sophie Lederer - 18 goals to lead the way for them.

I don't expect too many goals in this one and I suspect that Woonona (playing on familar turf) will just get over the line in a close one.
