WOMEN'S GRAND FINALS PREVIEW

The Women's Competitions wind up this weekend with the Grand Finals being held at Helensburgh's Rex Jackson Oval on Sunday. We preview each of the Grand Finals.

Division 1 - ALBION PARK v TARRAWANNA - 2.00pm (Field 1)

It's first v second for the two most successful clubs in Women's football in recent years. Tarrawanna effectively stole the championship from right under Albion Park's nose when they looked like they would run away with it mid way through the season.

These two clubs have quite a fierce rivalry and they share the points this year already with two wins a piece.  The latest meeting just 2 weeks ago saw Albion Park beat Tarrawanna 2-1 but this counts for nothing come Sunday.

Tarrawanna defender Helena Dorczak said "we have trained hard all week and we will be out to try and nullify Albion Park's strengths".  She pointed out the experienced Leah Carlon and Kahlia Muilwik up front coupled with Fran Halloway and Holly McDonald are the keys to their success although everyone still had to play their part.

Albion Park's Sharnice Sola reflected on the calmness of her team mates in the build up this week. They have been there before and know what to expect.  Sharnice did say that Tarrawanna was the hardest opponent they played all year and that she expected no different this weekend. Shanice singled out her striking duo - Shania Tungai and Brittany Ring as the key players although their key strength was their defence of which she is a big part of of.

This game could go either way and one would not be suprised if it went all the way although with the attacking power in each team, this has the hallmarks of a very entertaining match.

Division 2 - KIAMA v UNIVERSITY - 11.45am (Field 1)

It's second vs third in this one after Kiama upset League Champions Wollongong Olympic 3-1 in the GF qualifier.

There is not much seperating these two teams as they finished on level points however University do have a distinct advantage in the goals for category. They have had 13 different scorers this year who surely pose a threat to Kiama's defence although the Quarriers' defence has also been extremely disciplined only conceding 12 times in 16 matches.

Kiama's Any Jones and Teagan Smith look like posing the biggest threat to University who probably is going to start as marginal favorites despite Kiama beating them 1-0 and the other game being a 1-1 draw. It looks like we may have a low scoring affair where a single goal may just be enough to seperate the two sides.

Division 3 - TARRAWANNA v DANDALOO - 9.30am (Field 1)

Dandaloo were runaway league champions amassing 100 goals in 16 matches and only conceding 7 making them clear favourites in this one.

Dandaloo have beaten Tarrwanna 2-0 and 5-1 recently so they will go into this game with great confidence. Katie Nicholls (30) and Kiara Rayner (23) have over 50% of the teams goals and Tarrawanna will have to do the job on these two if they are going to have any chance one thinks.

For Tarrawanna, they have been dealt a huge blow with the experienced and former Stingray Rhinnon Fenson being ruled out with a long term injury. She has been their top scorer this year with 20 goals.

It's a Grand Final and anything can happen in these one of games however you would expect that Dandaloo would take this game out. They probably deserve it on the balance of things but all it takes it a bit of bad luck and things can turn south.

Division 4 - FIGTREE v RUSSELL VALE - 10.00am (Field 2)

Russell Vale Pink took out the League Championship over Port Kembla who stumbled over the closing weeks of the competition. The Pink ladies have not had too much trouble scoring this year having amassed 103 goals through the season.
Figtree on the other hand finished the season strong and coasting into third spot before beating Port Kembla last week 2-0 in the Grand Final Qualifier. They are a young side with pace and they will be looking to give the experienced Rusell Vale Pink ladies a torrid time.

Earlier this year, the teams played out a 4-4 draw and just recently Russell Vale prevailed 5-1 so one would expect another high scoring game although Russell Vale would surely have to start favourites here.
