COMMUNITY LEAGUE GRAND FINALS PREVIEW

The Community League season concludes this weekend with the culminatiom of the Grand Finals across the various divisions.

We take a sneak peak at the Grand Final match-ups this weekend.

All matches on Saturday 17 September @ Ian McLennan Park

All Age Division 1 - First Grade - Coniston FC v Dandaloo FC (6.00pm Field 1)

The big finale pits the two heavy-weights of the competition with both teams having aspirations of promotion to District League. Coniston are League Champions and rightly so following a stellar season. They have brought back some of their experienced players who seem to be in their element at this level.

Dandaloo have some ex-Premier League players of their own and despite losing 4-0 to Coniston on the two occasions they played, this game is sure to be closer than those previous scores reflected. They finsihed in third spot and beat second placed Wollongong Fury 3-1 in their secure their place in the final.

All Age Division 1 - Second Grade - Wollongong Fury v Port Kembla Pumas (4.00pm Field 1)

It's first vs second in this match up with the two best teams in the competition up against each other. Wollongong Fury (formerly Wollongong Surf) were League Champions.

These two sides have a win a piece this year already with Port Kembla winning 2-1 earlier in the year however Wollongong Fury took revenge with a thumping 8-1 win recently.

Expecting a close game here but think Wollongong Fury may just be too strong.

All Age Division 2 - Sandon Point v Thirroul Thunder (11.30am Field 1)

Sandon Point produced one of the biggest upsets of the Semi Finals when they knocked off the Coasters on penalties. Coasters had previously won 16 from 16 and took out the Masters Cup as well. Sadly, they won't be going to the Grand Final to make it a clean sweep.

Thirroul Thunder narrowly beat Jamberoo 2-1 last weekend to reach the final. Thirroul have had the wood on Sandon Point this year winning both fixtures 3-1 and 5-2 although the previous match may be remembered more for the tragic loss of one of the Thirroul players earlier this year.

All to play for between this two teams who have great respect for each other however I think Thirroul will be too strong with Sandon Point probably having played their Grand Final last week.

All Age Division 3 - South Coast United v Albion Park City (9.15am Field 1)

League Champions and hosts South Coast United take on third placed Albion Park City in what is likely to be an absorbing Grand Final to kick off the day.

South Coast beat Thirroul Thunder White 1-0 in the Semi Final whilst Albion Park City accounted for Gibson Park Rangers 2-1 to progress.

Albion Park City have beaten South Coast United twice already this year (4-3 and 2-1). As per results, there is not a lot between these two sides. This is expected to be a close game and it wouldn't surprise me if it went the distance.

All Age Division 4 - Vale Pups v Thirroul Thunder Blue (9.00am Field 2)

League Champions Vale Pups take on third placed Thirroul in this one. Both teams have been in free scoring form with Vale Pups accounting for Port Kembla Puma Masters 4-3 in the Semi Final whilst Thirroul edged out Razorbacks 3-2 in high scoring games.

The two teams have split the season this year with Vale Pups winning 2-1 before Thirroul Thunder beat them in the reverse fixture 4-2. There is likely  to no shortage of goals in this one.

Masters 1 - Russell Vale FC v Port Puma Kings (1.45pm Field 1)

It's the top two teams facing off in what is perhaps the dream final for this division. Although it's over 35's, both teams have some very handy players still running around in what promises to be an interesting match up.

Both teams had convincing semi final wins so it is perhaps fitting these two sides meet again. They only met once during the season with Russell Vale running out 4-2 winners. Port Kembla Pumas unfortunately forfeited the corresponding fixture effectively handing Russell Vale the League Championship.

Masters 2 - Port City Pumas v St Elias Old Boys (3.30pm Field 2)

One vs two here as well with the top two teams in the final. They were easily the two best teams in the division and could only be seperated by a single point so a close game is highly likely.

They drew 0-0 earlier this year before St Elias put Port the cleaners through Port Kembla winning 3-1. Expecting this one to perhaps go the distance even though the players might not.

Masters 3 - Jamberoo Bulls v Dapto Pheonix Yellow (1.30pm Field 2)

Jamberoo Rovers have had a great season so far taking out the League championship by 4 points. They have only lost once all year and will be hard to beat in this one. They managed to overcome a stubborn Krocs 2-0 in the semi final last week.

Dapto Pheonix Yellow did the job on second placed Coniston Veterans 4-1 to make the final and they will be bouyed by that result however it will not be easy as they have lost to the Bulls twice already this year 2-1 and 4-1.

Jamberoo will start as hot favourites for this one.

Masters 4 - Figtree Titans v Shellharbour Juniors (11.15am Field 2)

The last of our Masters divisions features easily the two best teams with Premiers Titans winning the League by 6 points although Shellharbour did forfeit one of their matches which effectively could have bridged that gap.

Shellharbour Juniors scraped through with a 2-1 win over Uni Rhinos in the semi final with Titans dismantling Coledale White 7-0.

I expect the Titans to prevail here by a couple of goals.
